More Dual Clutch Transmission Problems

2012 Ford Focus Sedan SEL 4dr Sedan (2.0L 4cyl 6AM)

An update to my previous post. The TCM ground fault is clearly not the problem as the car continues to slip out of gear. I took it back to the dealer, they kept it for 6 days, then called to say that it "needs a new transmission" that will cost over $5200. Others have posted that they have paid for a new transmission only to have the same problem. Do not buy one of these cars for any reason. I am now stuck with a car that moves only when it wants to, that I can't allow my kids to drive, that my wife refuses to drive, and that I cannot sell because my conscience won't allow it.

Dual Clutch Trans shifting problems

My trans kept dropping out of gear. No pattern - interstate, intersections, totally unpredictable. Would leave me stranded & the car would not go into gear. Ford dealer couldn't find the problem until I made video. They said I needed a $200 software patch that didn't work. I drove it 200 feet & it died in the dealers lot. After 8 days in the shop, they found a loose ground wire in the Transmission Control Module inside the transmission. I have driven about 450 miles with no recurrence of the problem. If you are having trans problems, let your dealer know to check the grounds on the TCM before you spend $. I regard it as a manufacturing & design flaw.

World Class Miss

We bought our Focus in August 2011 and were pleased with it for 2 of the 2-1/2 years we had it. My wife drove about 90 miles a day for most of the first two years and all was well. It handled like it was on rails, was comfortable and the mileage was great. Highest I got was 45. We got used to the quirky shifting but when my wife changed jobs and did mostly city driving, the clutch became unreliable. We also had electronic issues. We were told by Ford that we needed a new clutch pack and that it would be in by the end of next month. That went on for 4 months. Fed up, we traded it at a big loss due to transmission issues. Then Ford called to apologize. We love our new Buick Verano!

One Bad Tranny after Another :(

Transmission replaced at 22,000 after Ford sent regional located engineer out to determine problem and provide resolution as reflashing did nothing to eleviate shuddering and crunching/grinding noises of transmission. Resolution was to put in new transmission. At 36,000 miles or 14,000 into the new tranny we're experiencing same problem, yet even worse this time around. I couldn't be more disappointed at this point.

2012 FOCUS SFE - Transmission died $4,300 fix

I have a 2012 SFE that I purchased in Nov 2011 with 7 miles on it. Before I ever drove it, the salesperson told me about the shutter and explained why it was doing it and that it was normal. Within a month of getting it, I had to take it in to have the transmission "reprogrammed". That stopped the issues for a while but within another month I was back again. The service tech told me the same story and that I should keep driving it and it will eventually get better. I drive 120 per day all highway miles. At 84K miles I had to replace the transmission. $4,300USD.

2012 Ford Focus SEL

I bought this car for my 18 year old daughter to take to college. It had 42,000 when purchased. She has driven it 6,000 miles so far and is very happy with the car. The car has the peculiar shifting issues due to the automatic/manual transmission, but does not have any oil leaks or other problems that have been mentioned in previous reviews. I just went to visit a college with her that was 700 mile trip and car got 34 mpg. I'm very happy with that as her previous vehicle best was 24 mpg. The passenger seat was rather uncomfortable for me but I'm an old man. The stereo/sound system (sync) seemed me to sound very good. The back shelf has dry rotted around vent holes as others said.

Okay... but disappointed

I purchased this car seven months ago. It's okay, but I definitely regret buying this car. I did not know the automatic transmission was not your usual automatic; it's a dual-clutch auto manual, which causes it to be jerky in stop and go traffic (which for me is every day). This is so annoying and there is nothing Ford can do. I've already had the clutch replaced. I guess it's just how this car is. The audio's dial isn't true to what it actually sounds like. A "6" sounds like what should be a "15". I also don't like how there's no interior storage. The little storage they have on the door handles are so tiny I don't know what could fit in it. I am trading this car in for sure.

Ford Fan

I am a Ford fan and will continue to be so, only a little wiser. We leased a 2012 Ford Focus SE with the automatic transmission. The engine is very peppy and accelerates well, as long as the transmission is in synch. The transmission sometimes faulters with the engine RPM going above 7000, not good for the engine.Dealership at first said the car would adjust to our driving, then had it checked/adjusted by their trans "pro",then have said there is nothing wrong. The gas mileage is 3-6 mpg under what I expected. The rear deck foam disintegrated. The trunk leaks during rain. There are rattles in the front suspension area.Car has just passed 40000 miles and we will be turning in car at end of lease
