2005 Ford Focus Wagon ZXW SES 4dr Wagon (2.0L 4cyl 5M)

Review

Had it new since '05. Zippy, handles well, decent gas mileage (around 20 in the city, better than 30 on the highway). Have had NO breakdowns or any mechanical issues - an EXTREMELY dependable car. Good points -Front seats are very comfortable. Lots of pep. Brakes smoothly and the brake replacement intervals are quite long. Heat and A/C work great. Good cargo space in the back, especially for a small wagon. Decent in the snow. Stock sound system is okay. Bad points - not much room in the back seat. Cloth seats stain easily. Some body creaks that drive me nuts. Build quality could be better. Tail and brake light sockets distorted from light bulb heat.

Favorite Features

Dependability, fun to drive, cheap to maintain.

Suggested Improvements

Hey Ford, not too smart to have discontinued the Focus Wagon - you had a winner on your hands!

2005 Ford Focus Wagon ZXW SES 4dr Wagon (2.0L 4cyl 5M)

Review

Excellent small all-around car. Long distance use at 30%, short distance at 70%,and good at both. Can easily be used for camping(van-ning) by 2 adults, preferably not over 6' tall. Especially good for long distance motel-ing use. Price is right & repairs can be handled by local shops very adequately. 25 mpg overall avg.

Favorite Features

All-around visibility is the best of any vehicle with very good height. Interior ergonomics are excellent amd keeping smaller size in mind, are equal to those of the Grand Caravans. Shifting gears with the automatic xmsn is almost like using a 5 speed, perhaps better. MPG & engine right in the park.

Suggested Improvements

1.Rear brake noise. 2.Bigger tires. 3.In/Out thermometer-compass-MPG overhead console. 4.Right rear sliding door. 5.Longer rear length. 6.DC'd in '07, Ford should have upgraded like Honda, Subaru, etc.

Review

FoMoCo has vastly improved their small car design over the years. My first one was purchased new in 1981 (Mercury Lynx). This Focus wagon is fully loaded with options. All work well. I do look forward to replacing the Goodyear tires that came on it, however (Never had much luck with this brand, especially in getting them perfectly balanced). More insulation would be a good idea. Although not really annoying, you are definitely made aware of the high winding DOHC 4 cylinder engine doing it's thing, especially during "brisk" acceleration. All the teething problems Focus had in it's first few years seem to have been addressed and taken care of. So far, so good.

Favorite Features

Performance and handling are outstanding. Nice looking little wagon.

Suggested Improvements

Dash material could be improved. Looks cheaper than the rest of the vehicle. Steering wheel positioning is adjustable, but still isn't 100% how I want it. (Picky, picky!).

Review

Great improvement all around, our first focus was a 2000 wagon. Especially in body fit and finish. All interior functions feel much higher in quality also. We love the economy and room inside. Better than all the other wagons we looked at.

Favorite Features

Quality of materials, room, style of the ZXW SES.

Suggested Improvements

Larger arm rest on doors for long trips, window tinting on all windows.

Review

This car is very roomy and easy to get in and out of. I am average build and over 6 foot tall and am comfortable in front and back seats. My parents have a new full size 4 door Jaguar which has significantly less head/leg room and is more challenging to enter and exit. Focus wagon's cargo area is very impressive for a car of this size. Visibility and ease of driving are very good. Itís fairly quiet and good riding. Pickup is good, but not like a sports car, but definitely adequate for merging onto freeways, etc.

Favorite Features

Standard MP3 CD player which allows you to basically have a several hundred song music library onto only a few CDs you don't have to take in and out of the car. Interior comfort and roominess is excellent. Car seems heavier and more solid than some of the Japanese imports I looked at.

Suggested Improvements

Gas mileage is nowhere near the EPA numbers of 35mpg on the window. With no other passengers or load in the car and driving on nearly complete flat freeway with virtually no traffic or stops, at speeds averaging 60 to 65mph, with manual shift, I get around 28mpg. I don't know the actual city mpg.
