    Fourth gear is overdrive. You only have four forward gears. The overdrive lockout will let you change thru 1 to 3. Click the switch and you can use all four speeds.

    I have a 2005 Ford Focus ZX5 2.0L with the AT. My problem is that the car will not shift into 4th gear unless the car is in overdrive. I am hoping it is just a sensor or something I can fix myself on a weekend. Is there any hope?

    I was having the same issue with my 2005 ford focus and replaced the solenoids from the company that you linked, I swapped out all the solenoids and it didn't cure the problem. My vehicle won't shift into second or overdrive still. Before I took it apart I had a code for solenoid L stuck open. Any one else having the same issue? Any help that might work? Thanks

    I disagree totally...our 2005 Mazda 3s drives so much better than the Focus SE I drove in the beginning of the month. To be fair, the Focus does have the smaller engine so it's not quite an apples to apples comparo.     Ford won't, its not the tranmission, its the solenoids, they out around every 60k miles, aamco is wrong, when its slips out of gear and clunks back in like that and you have no second gear its solenoid B. I swear you would think even a place like aamco would do a little research but hey at least geico is paying for and not you :)

    Had to have the solenoids and 2nd gear band replaced on my Focus. Was shown the worn parts. The band had snapped in two. I don't know how it managed to stay on??     Here is the deal. Ford manufactors the Focus with a 2 degree negative camber. This makes your rear tires go defective as fast as 10,000 miles especially if you don't rotate your tires very often. Overall, it's a piece of junk with many problems: transmission (auto), engine, lights, tires, missing parts from assembly, etc., etc., etc. These problems are one thing and along with a certified Ford Dealership not honoring Ford's warranty just put the icing on the cake. Our 2005 Focus is GONE! We never plan to buy another Ford product again!

    imo, great review. i have an '04 zts with the same drivetrain. the engine is amazingly flexible. my car has slightly smaller tires, so it gets a bit better mileage. it has never been on a 250 trip. wish i had that exhaust system to 'st' has.

    Wow my MPG suffered after going to 100% highway. I recently moved and I go about 70 (yeah I follow the speed limit) on the freeway for my entire commute and I'm down to 29-30 MPG. I was getting better fuel economy going local with some minor gridlock. Very odd .

    I'm on the 2nd tank for a 2007 sedan with a 5-speed. Roughly 50/50 driving and I've averaged 32 and 32.5 mpg so far. My driving is usually about 80% highway and after more miles, I'm hoping to see around 35 mpg based on my past two Fords with Duratec engines.

    The ignition problem where your key won't turn is NOT a warranty item after the first 60,000 km in Alberta. You have to pay for it yourself, Ford dealers are very expensive for this! In Edmonton call Dial Locksmith who will do it for under $200 usually. Ford charges anywhere from $400-700..I've been thru it all at the end of May!

    New car warranties are automatically transferred to the new owner. Since you have a 2005 Focus with less than 36,000 miles, you need to be taking it to a Ford dealer for free repair work. I'd start doing oil changes there (on special, about $35) to keep the warranty in effect. Virtually nothing else is required to preserve your warranty.
