I bought in 2001. I didn't drive it for the first year. So I got 2 good year of driving before it just went down hill. just a few months after the warranty went out.
The front springs started making horrible noises. CD player ate CDs. Replaced
4 years alternator needed changing. Engine has to come out to do it. $$$
5 years it started doing this thing where it will not idle if you get out for five minutes after driving it for a short time. You have to wait 20 minutes to work or keep it idling at 1000rpm and drive it like a stander. I had everything under the hood changed and nothing helped. Still doing it 6 1/2 years later
10 1/2 years the alternator needs changing again
DONE. Getting new car
Ok gas mileage.
Arm rest broke between year 3 and 4. Made cheap. Cup holders in a bad spot.Forgot to say that between 4 and 6 years, 3 out of my 4 windows motors broke. The seal started leaking on doors. Not sure where. Sometime not always the floors will get wet when it rains and leave a nice mildew smile. Ruined pictures I had in the car. Thanks ford. I dislike this car and is really surprised that I have kept it 10 1/2 years.
buying a new car, maybe Honda, this week. NOT FORD.
Not ever again.
First of all, this review is most likely half true. I have never heard of someone buying a new car and then saying they didn't drive it for a year. That statement in its self is a red flag that this person isn't going to be reliable. Warranties do run out, fortunately, if you?re a decent person and take care of your equipment and keep up with the wear and tear your car won?t fall apart shortly after the warranty. To me it sounds like this person is not a car expert what so ever. To back my statement, look how he tries to throw in mechanical ?gargan? to make it sound like he knows what he is talking about. The alternator recharges the battery while the engine runs through a process that includes a serpentine belt the pulls the pulley on the alternator. You do not have to remove the engine for that. In most repair cases the engine never has to be removed on the sole fact that every other part is connected to the engine. Springs usually are not what squeak. It?s most certainly U joints probably because he put many miles on the car and refused to have the car serviced. I would suggest a good guess why his car wont idle correctly is because he didn?t change the oil and let it run low which in turn caused it to burn up seals inside the engine. Please if you?re interested in a Focus do look into it. Ford in general will always be a better buy for your buck than most foreign brands. the Focus was never intended to be a luxury car, with that being said the interior is usually made of plastic, which to some can be seen a cheap. I have been driving a two door hatch back for a few years now. I love how it drives; the Air conditioning will take your breath away. More importantly, the curvature of the seats makes long road trips pleasant. Some people just don?t understand mechanics and then turn around and try to bash an entire car brand. Your car is an extension of yourself. If you take care of your car then you will not have problems. Please discredit this person?s biased opinion on a superior car such as the Focus. If you don?t believe me then look at how many you see on the road. Look at how many around the world Ford has sold. Now how can so many people make a mistake like the person above is claiming?
