The available 6.4-liter PowerStroke diesel gives the F-350 excellent towing and hauling capability. So equipped, its towing capability exceeds that of all other 1-ton pickups except the F-450. The five-speed automatic works well, but competitiors with six-speeds have an advantage in this department when climbing grades.
Depending on the options selected, the F-Series Super Duty line can be quite well-appointed and comfortable. Longer leaf springs for '08 do make the ride more palatable than before, and a bit better than its direct competitors, but it's still on the stiff side without a trailer attached or a load in the bed. Consider a smaller truck if frequent towing or heavy-duty usage isn't your plan.
The available 8-foot bed can carry over 5,700 pounds of payload. Single or dual rear wheels configurations are offered. Air-conditioning, audio systems and other interior controls are straightforward. Plenty of interior storage is available via a large center console and generous bi-level door pockets. An innovative bed step folds out of the tailgate.
Outside, F-Series trucks look every bit the part of a heavy-duty hauler. But inside, the tough truck theme is a bit over-the-top. Assembly quality is about average for such a truck truck.
Towing Capable
With either a 5th-wheel setup or a receiver hitch, the tow rating of the F-350 is higher than all other 1-ton trucks except the Ford F-450.
Cargo Hauler
Most F-350s with single rear wheel configurations have payloads upward of 4,000 pounds. With dual rear wheels, available payloads exceed 5,700 pounds on certain configurations.
High Performer
The F-350's performance exceeds that of all other 1-ton trucks.
Off-Road Ready
Four-wheel drive is available on any configuration. While the Super Duty line is not intended to be the ultimate rock-crawler, the F-Series part-time 4x4 system will help it claw through most questionable road surfaces.
