Review

I replaced a 1999 F250 diesel with this. The 18 inch wheels make the truck too tall and are expensive to replace. The CD player died in the first year. The truck is now in the shop and has been for the past week and a half with unknown engine problems. They just keep replacing parts and hoping for the best. Fortunately is happened just as the warranty was about to expire. This is a WORK truck, regularly towing 18,000# and the lack of reliability has me starting to shop for a different brand. I traded the 99 I had when it had 240,000 miles and had virtually no problems. Fuel economy is also poor.

Favorite Features

Tow/Haul mode is a real good feature, helping with stops and downhill runs when towing heavy loads.

Suggested Improvements

Option of smaller wheels and a MUCH more reliable engine.

2006 Ford F-350 Super Duty Lariat 4dr SuperCab 4WD LB (5.4L 8cyl 6M)

Review

I replaced a 2003 F350 Crew Cab DRW LB 4x2 XLT Lariat with all the bells and whistles. Mileage is about the same as with the '03 7.3L diesel but the 6.0L has more torque and is noticeably quieter. Through 12,000 miles already and no problems to report. My spouse absolutely loves to drive my truck when I'm not using it, which is most of the time though. We are still using the '03 and it has 370,000 miles and still not using oil between changes and plenty of power! Just confirms my opinion that Ford really does build tough trucks.

Favorite Features

The integrated trailer brake controller and the heated leather seats are my favorite features. 4WD shift on the fly is a nice convenience too, especially out on the farm or deer lease in lousy weather.

Suggested Improvements

Still wish that they offered a GPS Navigation system at the Lariat trim level since I drive all over the US on business.

Review

I purchased this truck thinking that I was getting a much improved version of my two past diesels, but got a surprise instead. Had a '99 & '03 SD diesels and got 19 & 23 hwy, 16 & 21 city, 17 & 21 towing a 10k# trailered boat. The new F-350 got only 14 hwy and 12 city avg. The worst I got was 8mpg on three different occasions city going up/down hills. Powerwise, it's equal to the '03 and way better than the 7.3 '99 model but the '99 doesn't sound so busy under the hood. The quieter diesel is appreciated by the neighbors around me! The ride is a lot more harsh than the other two trucks and aftermarket tire/wheel combos are limited and pricey due to the 18" minimum requirement. Overall a good truck.

Favorite Features

Love the outfitter switches and factory braking system. Stereo system is good for factory.

Suggested Improvements

Include a security system with "fobs" as standard feature since these trucks are being stolen in higher numbers. Very easy to "hot wire" and drive off without much trouble. Ended up installing an aftermarket alarm to keep bad guys out.

Test drove it and it was s-o-o nice I couldn't believe it was 1-ton. Has all the options, (that I didn't really need, but sure turns it into a luxury vehicle). Towed a 7-8000# trailer 2000 miles and averaged 12.2 mpg. Power was good. May add a hi flow air cleaner to get a little more. REALLY a nice truck.

Favorite Features

More of a luxury vehicle then a truck. With a 11000# GVW it will haul/tow a lot, in comfort. Fit/finish are first rate. The 20" forged wheels are about the nicest factory wheels I've seen.

Suggested Improvements

Cup holders and a 12V plug on the back of the center console. A GPS in the dash would be neat.

Due to the extra purchase cost I got the gas v8. The diesel is needed for heavy pulling, but the gas V8 will do, just slower. Very happy with the truck overall though it did stall out completely one time for no reason and no code was recorded. The built in trailer brake system is a must for towing, but it does hold up the RPM's at times a bit too long and when coasting it will kick up and you have to tap the gas to get it to shift. But great overall. I can't even feel our 4 horse trailer behind it. The interior is very comfortable and large. The engine is thirsty. 12 MPG normally and 9 MPG towing. Fit and finish all are very good.

Favorite Features

Built in trailer brake system.

Suggested Improvements

Gas mileage in this day and age should be better and fine tune the trailer system and transmission linkup. Should work smoother with the gas engine.

Replaced a 99 F-350 4x4 crew cab with v-10 with a 2006 F-350 4x4 crew cab with the 6.0 diesel, So far, it's getting about 15 mpg, and the old v-10 got 10 mpg. Lots more bells and whistles on the new one, I really like it.

Favorite Features

Climate control, heated seats, back up alarm, information center.

Suggested Improvements

Bigger convex mirrors.

Although my 2003 was great, the 2006 is even better! Being a King Ranch, the interior couldn't be better and this one has the moonroof as well. The overall build quality is better and the improved steering and brake system are impressive. The 6.0 liter Navistar diesel is even quieter with out the heavy hood insulation from '03 and the power can't be beat with the 5 speed torqueshift. This one turns less RPM at the same speeds with the only difference being 18" tires which should afford even better mileage than before. I averaged 19 with my old one which for the weight, mass, and power is fine with me. The improved message center is as accurate as it is detailed. The GVRW is 11720 and nimble.

Favorite Features

Interior, integrated brake system, upfitter switches, tighter turning, and driver's glove box are great features. No other truck comes close in fit and finish much less the incredible drive train. I wasted my time checking what they call competitive models. Its amazing mileage with so much power!

Suggested Improvements

The moonroof moves the map lights to the front but no map lights in the rear of this comfortable big cab. Better mileage would be great as long as torque and power aren't compromised. I can't think of any more to ask for!

Review

I purchased my 2006 F350 XLT dually in July 2005. I ordered from Ford. It was delivered with the exact equipment I ordered. Beautiful truck, rides like a luxury car with or without load. I put a matching Leer cap on long bed. Truck is striking. Have towed 12,000 pound loads many times, it has hands down the best braking system of any tow vehicle period. System controls trailer brakes automatically with the same braking force applied to truck brakes. It's amazing! V-10 is awesome, but install a K&N hi flow air filter immediately, stock filter does not let the engine breath. Many people want a diesel, but the v-10 is a mighty engine with same 5 speed auto, that costs $7,000 less.

Favorite Features

Braking system incredible. Nearly 400 hp v-10 engine with 5 speed auto rocks! Roomy cab, style with new grill, 8 foot bed, extra beefy tow capacity, great head/fog light visibility, rear folding seats with cargo tray, factory tinted windows, meat locker a/c system, full instrumentation, great seats!

Suggested Improvements

Ditch the stock air filter, starves engine of intake air. Put a freer flowing cat back exhaust system. Add dash and door trim pieces to dress up interior. Order the chromed wheels!

Review

I am a 72 yr old #38 FORD truck owner since age 14. The F-350 '06 KING RANCH Crew Cab 4WD is the very best Ford I have ever owned. The torque & HP is matched perfectly. I have pulled my 16,000# boat & trailer with great ease & handling. We have also had 17,000# on bumper pulling a tractor behind, front end due to tractor load was somewhat light. The KING RANCH option is well worth the added money as the comfort level & feel is awesome. The turning radius on this coil spring setup is far superior to the 2004 we owned. We now have 4000 miles and the earlier mileage was 16-18 MPG, now 13-14. Looking forward to oil change & filter change.

Favorite Features

King Ranch option, moon roof, handling, visibility, power, torque, braking controller, Oxford White exterior over Arizona Beige, with matching bed liner! Adjustable seats, foot pedals, power rear window to bed, seating for 5 adults. Very quiet interior compared to previous trucks. 10 of 10.

Suggested Improvements

Ford has created a masterpiece in looks, handling, power, interior room, sound levels. Ford keep up the good work you have done so very well. For maximum work, daily handling, good looks, excellent ride for a 1 ton, leave it alone. The 2006 F-350 needs nothing.

Review

This truck is a very nice truck. I'm a bit disappointed in the fuel mileage after the last outing of 350 miles. Maybe the mileage is very good, but I was really hoping for better with a small block diesel. Straight highway, empty. I went approximately 50 miles for every speed increase to let the onboard computer AVG MPG settle (I have found after 3500 miles, it's very close +/- 1MPG. I was getting: approx 23-24MPG @ 55MPH, 21MPG @ 65MPH, 19MPG @ 75 MPH. The MPG dropped almost on the button 1 MPG for every 5 MPH faster. I topped of the tank to start and and retopped off the tank to verify. The onboard computer was accurate. I was hoping for 20-30% better out of a diesel. Weight ~empty: 7350 (on scales).

Favorite Features

I would chose this truck again. There's not another truck in its class from any manufacture that I would rather have. Favorites: everything :-). Front grill, power, interior, mirrors, paint, options, etc. I like everything about it. :-)

Suggested Improvements

Rear cup holders (even for Supercab), dome light for the rear and map light near the front windshield. User option to have the dome light not turn on when the key is turned off or not. Battery amp/voltage gauge. Additional onboard engine, drivetrain, etc readings. Glove compartment light.
