What's New for 2001
The Trailer Tow package is standard on all models, as is four-wheel ABS. XLT and Lariat models can be equipped with an ultrasonic reverse vehicle-aid sensor, an in-dash six-disc CD changer and chrome tubular cab steps. Heated seats are available on Lariat models. Rounding out the 2001 changes are minor interior updates and a horsepower upgrade to the 7.3-liter diesel engine.

I have had this truck about 7 years now and I love it. I tow horses, ATV's and snowmobiles. 2-3 times a year I tow a trailer from the San Francisco bay area to North Idaho. It has always towed excellent. I average while towing about 14-15 MPG. Highway driving I get 19-20 miles consistently without towing. I really enjoy my truck and plan on putting 300,000 miles on it. As of 12/2/2008 I have 88,xxx miles. Great truck

I just bought the truck (my first one and a diesel to boot) because I needed to move heavy equipment from Missouri to Georgia. I towed a 33 foot long 8 foot diameter Emulsion Storage tank on a 40 foot gooseneck trailer. The tank alone weighed 11,000 pounds. I could not belive how well it ran with this 40 foot behemoth on the back. I still got almost 13 miles to the gallon. It took me 19 hours but I arrived feeling good - the seating and interior are very comfortable. I love this truck. I can't wait to add a chip and cold air intake.

I always wanted an F-350. When I got it I was not disappointed. The only con is Ford did not design this truck with a infared ignition or any other kind of anti theft device. My truck has been stolen three times, recovered every time (lucky) with minimal damage. If you buy invest in a good viper systen vx770 and a fuel cut off system or a ECM cut off system. It dont stop em from breaking in. Buy it will keep em from taking it.
Favorite Features
It is a beautiful symphony of metal and leather. Power comming out my ears. Fuel for this motor is awesome for the motor size, 13MPG city 18 MPG highway. 16 towing a 2800 pound boat.
Suggested Improvements
F-Series Lacks any real anti theft features. The door lock is imbedded in moulded plastic. To easy to break with a screw driver. Make it out of metal. A coded key or infared ignition system would be great start to real anti-theft devices. An optional GPS tracking unit would be a nice added feat

Looks good, runs and tows great, turbo gives lots of boost, seats are comfy, layout is good, and lots of room in the crew cab. Nice paint job, the anti-lock brakes (4-wheel disc) work properly if loaded or full. That alone is worth getting the truck. Mileage is 16 in town, 18-19 on freeway, but using fuel conditioner from Wal-Mart can get up to 21. Complaints: no armrests and the bed is too thin so it bends easily if loading pallets or heavy items. The master clutch cylinder is plastic and prone to need changing every 40-50k. Otherwise it is a great truck. Now have 97,000 miles.
Favorite Features
Powerful engine is fun to drive, and it holds curves like a smaller truck. Plus the 500-600 mile range between fill ups is nice, double my old '88 crew cab with the 351 engine. The 2wd version keeps tires for their life, around 30,000 per set.
Suggested Improvements
Stronger steel in bed, armrests on basic version, better master clutch cylinder.

I've been using my F-350 7.3L diesel automatic 96,000 miles for a daily driver and for pulling various trailers (mostly horse trailers) since I bought it in June 2001. I've been quite pleased. I check the tranny fluid for discoloration and change PROMPTLY to avoid auto tranny damage. The only problem I've had in the four and half years is an o-ring on the oil line going to the oil cooler came apart (losing quite a bit of engine oil and scaring me half to death) at about 40,000 miles. The dealership that fixed the o-ring implied the low oil pressure switch would have shut the truck down before any permanent damage (hopefully) if I hadn't seen the puddle and shut the truck down on my own.
Favorite Features
Handles a decent sized trailer well. Feels very safe when towing within the specs and have any trailer brakes (that work!). Has been dependable (only left me on the side of the road once). AC and heat are EXCELLENT compared to my Dodge Ram 3500.
Suggested Improvements
The place where the seat belts fasten (at your hip) come out of the seat and can't be folded back under the seat (it isn't very comfortable to snooze in). The truck isn't geared to pull a heavy trailer very well at 75+ mph.
