worst truck i've ever owned
Vehicle
1999 Ford F-350 Super Duty 4 Dr XL 4WD Extended Cab SB
Review
i bought mine off lease @ 140,000 miles, rear leafs broke before I could put any weight in it, winter came, it wouldn't start unless plugged in. Changed the entire glow plug system and still no start, drive shaft failed, transmission failed, front hub bearing failed, cup holder face broke, and the cabin had wind noise from the doors. I finally gave up throwing money at an expensive diesel truck. I will never own another computer controlled diesel; it never had a trouble code and no one could figure out the cold start problem... dealer told me the engine was worn out and needed to be replaced @140,000 miles. The transmission is one year & one model only and usually has to be ordered from Ford.
Favorite Features
Truck had good power, rode beautiful, wasn't too bad on fuel considering it was 7.3 litre's. Cabin was nice manual locking hubs are great. Solid front axle has Chevys IFS beat hands down. but the transmission is the weak link and VERY expensive to replace in the 99 F-350 model.
Suggested Improvements
Better quality control. F-350 should not fall apart @140,000 miles. Worst part was cold starts anything below 32 degrees F was near impossible to start unless plugged in overnight. Transmission in the 99 F-350 is one year, one model only and a replacement is very expensive and usually only direct from Ford!

Review
Had numerous 4x4 P/U's.6-Chevy's, 2- Dodge's,and 1 other Ford. This truck is by far the closest to a perfect description of a truck. Carry load,2 tons gravel, no problem.Pull load, 32 ft 5th wheel w/21 ft boat in tandem, no problem.Bought 7.3 liter w/125 K,has chip and aftermarket turbo.265hp & 575lb torque. Can actually accelerate up steep hills loaded.13 mpg pulling load, and 16 mpg unloaded highway @ 65mph w/373 gears.4 whl disc have great stopping power.Lockers in front and rear great match for diesel.Ext cab great for short trips w/pass and extra luggage.Rides like a truck until loaded. All this from a vehicle w/130 K miles.Ford tran will outlast Dodge.
Favorite Features
As stated above, gotta have 7.3 diesel, 4x4 w/lockers, extra cab space,4 whl disc.Chip and turbo package also have aftermarket gauges which helps monitor what's going on.SuperDuty frame is stiff, solid. IFS tons better than solid axle for ride and traction.Tie down points in bed nice.
Suggested Improvements
Installed K&N air filter on front end,but could use bigger dia. exhaust. Diesel basically big air pumping machine that needs big breaths. Factory tires stink, tire up according to your individual needs, whether on road or off.Little quieter cab, not from motor so much as road noise.

Just got the truck. It's great to have all the extra room. The V10 is great on gas mileage, but neither is having 37's on it either. Used to be diehard Chevy, but not anymore after driving this.
Favorite Features
Room, horsepower, looking down on other people as I drive by
Suggested Improvements
better weatherstripping

I've pulled everything from a 34 foot tri-axle camping trailer to hauling a 3500 pound slide in camper. I have left the engine stock but have put on heavy front and rear bumpers from Southwest Fabricators, located in Junction, TX. The bumpers are very similar to Ranch Hand's but less expensive. I also put on a set of 5000 pound Ride-Rite air springs on the back. This is a tremendous truck made for pulling, and pull it will.
Favorite Features
The awesome power of that 7.3 diesel, and lots of room (inside and out). Noise reduction inside the cab and the creature comforts.
Suggested Improvements
None really, other than I plan to re- chip the engine and looking for a larger diameter exhaust system.

Very comfortable, quality ride, great mileage, the very best truck I have ever owned. truck #6 for me have owned dodges, chevys, gmc and now 2 Fords and am very impressed with this truck above all others.
Favorite Features
4x4 system is a great and also lifesaving feature, being able to shift on the fly for a limited slip traction advantage while tooling down the road can really help if road conditions change when you blink. the front diff. lock can really put the rubber down in mud or dirt when needed,
Suggested Improvements
If I new how to improve it I wouldn't say it here but sell it to Ford, because this truck will be a winner for years to come.
