I am doing just the opposite, 1997 Ford F350 5 spd to a e40d trans and have the same problems. I have been told that the pcm thinks it is still a stick trans and need to replace it with a new processer so it thinks it is now a auto trans. This might help you too. Read More...

Hi, I just bought a used 2005 and have encountered this shaking only at low speeds so far. Is there a chance you may be able to get the tech service bulletin # from the dealer. I took it to a front end shop that we take our work trucks to and they could not figure it out. I am mostly interested in the steering box "adjustment". I will do the tires myself. Hello all, i am at my witts end, i have owned this truck for about 2 yrs now, have always started right up, well i bought a 99-250 and let dually set up about 2 months now it will not start, turns over, getting fuel , but no compression to fire off, I had one fellow tell me to put oil in engione because the rings have dried up, and they will not seal, so no compression. Hello Thurman, If you are plowing and have a Dump bed on it and it's never been replaced or rebuilt I am shocked the Transmission has lasted that long. I put a post last week about where to go for Ford Diesel Parts and even a Guy here in Denver, Colorado about having our Trannys rebuilt, the shipping cost for you to ship yours here and get one back might cost a little more ... I would get the 7.3 in a 1999, best mpg and the 6.0 is crap. I have a 1999 F-350 crewcab 4x4 and I average 20-22 on the highway and 16-17 in town, without a chip. 1999 has only had one recall and is a hell of smother the a 1997 and down. Read More...

Bull S### I baby my 2008 F450 w/ 4:88 gears and only get 8mpg. My 1997 F350 4:10 gears 7.3L provided 18 to 19 mpg, 2006 F350 4:10 gears 6.0L provided about the same. 2008 7-8 mpg with no load.
