V8 Auto: Good truck, but weak points.
Vehicle
2005 Ford F-250 Super Duty 2dr Regular Cab XL Rwd LB (5.4L 8cyl 6M)
Review
I bought this truck new before moving from TX to NY, and for long distance driving with a trailer this truck was fantastic. The 5.4 V8 is adequate but could be stronger. At 22k I had to have a front bearing replaced due to water incursion, and while backing out of an icy driveway spinning tires, the xmsn had an internal failure that holed the xmsn case, and so at 27k back to Ford for warranty service again. I'm afraid of further problems when the warranty runs out so I've decided to trade the truck in. Overall, this is a top-notch hauling vehicle and great to drive on the long roads, but if you expect to use it for serious farm work or anything off pavement, you'll be disappointed.
Favorite Features
16k lb towing cap, comfortable for long hauls, feels very safe, sounds beastly with Magnaflow exhaust, minimal road noise, heater and a/c are fantastic, handling is great once suspension is broken in, spacious cab, mirrors are terrific for rear visibility, headlights are long- reaching and bright.
Suggested Improvements
Factory contitrac tires are poor, and shred easily driving off pvmnt, bearings are short-lived, transmission is weak and inadequate, suspension when new is jittery and prone to sideslip while cornering on bumpy road, gas mileage after 10k miles went from 14 mpg to about 11-12 mpg, mirrors need heat.

Run Away!
Vehicle
2005 Ford F-250 Super Duty 4dr Crew Cab XL 4WD SB (5.4L 8cyl 6M)
Review
Bought the truck new...shortly thereafter, when I would hit a bump at speed, the truck would lose steering, lose brakes, shake uncontrollably. make a sound like the end of the world. I took it in to be fixed. They claimed it was repaired 4 or 5 times!! Seriously dangerous stuff. I was bound to kill myself or someone else or whomever was driving it: my wife, mother, father-in-law. I spoke with Ford and got their TSBs...happens in a A LOT of the F250s(gas)! I asked to swap the truck out. No dice; they told me to Lemon Law it (Florida). I did...and won. Ford appealed the decision. This was about a year ago. We go trial (again) in January. When I win that case, Ford will appeal again

Power Stroke Diesel = Problems
Vehicle
2005 Ford F-250 Super Duty 4dr SuperCab XLT 4WD LB (5.4L 8cyl 6M)
Review
Drives great, tows and has enough power. However- nothing but problems with the Turbo Diesel. Had it 2 1/2 years, and in that time it has had major engine problems at least 3 times. The Turbo went out. The "viens" in the diesel colapsed. The # 6 injector failed completely while on a trip, towing a trailer. Had to get it towed from the "middle of nowhere" to the dealer to fix. Under warranty, had a deductable of $100.00. After that, they covered the cost. BUT that did not cover the tow, and it did not instill any confidence for our next trip. Not sure, but if one more thing happens, it's gonna get traded in for a Dodge. Not at all happy with the diesel engine's reliability.
Favorite Features
Great looks. Nice power. Wish it were more reliable.
Suggested Improvements
Don't block the speedometer with the steering wheel. Poor placement. My old '99 F 150 has been a dream. Over 200,000 miles, and still going. Not so, the 250 diesel. Speedometer placement much better in the F150. Ford shouldn't have changed it. Got the leather bucket seats. Not comfortable.

First F250
Vehicle
2005 Ford F-250 Super Duty 4dr SuperCab Lariat 4WD LB (5.4L 8cyl 6M)
Review
Had several F150s but needed something to pull my 30ft RV in the Colorado mountains. Scored a 2005 SD, SC, Lariat, FX4 LB w/33K. This is an awesome truck. 6.0L powerstroke is incredible. The truck commands the road and most nearby traffic. It's loaded with just about every option and very comfortable. Leather is top quality, roomy, eye appealing inside and out. Handles well for being as big as it is. Have only had it a short time and already getting compliments. Liked the 2005 model changes to the grill best so went with that year. Suits me just fine. If it's like my other Fords, I'll get years of reliable service.
Favorite Features
Powerful engine, torque shft trans, luxury car in a truck body, heavy, beefy suspension, stereo system, built in brake controller, tire/rim combo, big front end, even bigger cargo box, quality of craftsmanship ie; assembly and paint. This is another example of why I've always owned Ford trucks!

Fuel economy

My 6L diesel truck has about 36k on it now, and never had an unscheduled maintenance. None of my many Toyotas were this reliable. I have always gotten around 14 to 16mpg in town (hills and stop signs and long, long red lights in Meridian, MS). On the highway, I get over 23mpg if I am driving 55mph; as little as 18mpg if I am going 80 on a windy, rainy day, empty or loaded up and trailering. I have driven it in a hurricane (here, Katrina was all-day-long 45 to 55mph and the truck never felt unstable); my work can call me out at odd hours. It seems as fast as my '06 Corvette, and is fine for 6 snooty adults! Highly recommended!
Favorite Features
Diesel power and economy. Luxurious Lariat interior room and comfort. Reliability. Handling. Very easy to shift into 4WD. Great standard stereo and CD changer. It has a turbo, so it has to spool up for full power, but can still easily bark the tires from a stop. BTW, comes with great tires!
Suggested Improvements
Ford has come up with improvements on the 2008 model I never would have thought of. I haven't driven an '08 yet, but imagine it must be perfect!

I've driven this truck back and forth in Texas and enjoy every mile of it. For a 10k lb truck, she drives like a dream. I test drove the Dodge and Chevy, but neither one offered the room or options that I got with my Ford. Haven't chipped it yet, but I am still getting 15-18 in city and 25 plus on the highway, as long as you stay out of the turbo and realize what you are driving and just kick back.
Favorite Features
The diesel, room in the back for the kids, the tough stance and feel. Most comfortable ride you are going to have.
Suggested Improvements
I would put cupholders in the back on the doors.

My F 250 King Ranch Truck
Vehicle
2005 Ford F-250 Super Duty 4dr Crew Cab Lariat 4WD SB (5.4L 8cyl 6M)
Review
I found this vehicle excellent on the highway, comfort and acceleration is very good. I also found the truck to handle very nicely in town. Parking in a lot is a little difficult, but to be expected for a big truck. I have heard that Ford has a problem with this engine but this was not my experience. I am somewhat skeptical of buying another one because of the "lemon" factor. BUT mine has been very good. I have driven the new 2007 King Ranch version like mine, very little difference.
Favorite Features
I like everything about this truck, body style, Power Stroke, King Ranch is very nice.
Suggested Improvements
The 4X4 makes a noise the is concerning. I did not take mine in for the noise but a friend said they told him nothing was wrong with his for the same noise...I would rather not hear the sound of stress.

Diesel King Ranch
Vehicle
2005 Ford F-250 Super Duty 4dr Crew Cab Lariat Rwd SB (5.4L 8cyl 6M)
Review
I've had my diesel 4x4 truck for almost a year and thus far has given me perfect service...no problems whatsoever. I often pull my enclosed car trailer (about 7500 lbs.) effortlessly. I get about 14 mpg around town, 18-19 mpg on the open road doing 80 mph and around 12 mpg when towing 65-70 mph. I have the deluxe King Ranch model and is very comfortable. I regularly get compliments about the truck when getting fuel. The only thing that I would change would be not having the captain seats in the rear, but a bench seat for the sake of carrying groceries and packages inside. I also like the availability of getting 16", 18", or 20" wheels, unlike GMC/GM were only 16" wheels are offered.
Favorite Features
The first class attention to detail on the interior styling, materials, and comfort. I especially like the built-in trailer brake controller and just how the truck performs while towing.
Suggested Improvements
I don't like the feel of the steering when making slow tight turns while in four wheel drive. There is a jerkiness and feedback through the steering wheel. I would have also preferred an "all wheel drive" system instead of having to turn the 4x4 on manually. I had that type on my Exhibition.
