Summary
What Edmunds.com says
When it comes to heavy-duty pick 'em ups, you can choose between a Chevy, a Dodge, a Ford or a GMC. Match your needs to the truck with the most capability to meet them, and you're all set. Of course, which model you select is also guided by brand loyalty. If you're a Ford kind of guy or gal with big loads to haul or tow, the F-250 Super Duty pickup will handle up to 8,800-pounds GVWR or a 14,500-pound fifth-wheel trailer.
Pros
Rugged construction, multiple configurations, competent off-road capabilities, 14,500-pound fifth-wheel trailer capacity.
Cons
Noisy drivetrains, poor gas mileage, large size, stiff ride when not loaded.
What's New for 2002
A six-speed manual transmission is now standard with the 5.4- and 6.8-liter V8 gas engines, and the 6.8-liter has been enhanced to provide better performance. If you order an automatic transmission, a gauge that measures transmission oil temperature replaces the battery gauge, and you can opt to add adjustable pedals to your Super Duty XLT or Lariat truck. Trucks with the Power Stroke diesel get an air filter service indicator. All F-250s get roof ride handles standard for 2002, and the available telescoping trailer mirrors can now be folded forward. SuperCabs have new rear door panel map pockets with molded-in cupholders. XL gets upgraded visors, while XLT and Lariat get new seats with increased width, bolstering and lumbar support; jewellike headlamp lenses and an available Advanced Security Group that includes remote keyless entry, automatic door locks and automatic headlamps. Optional on the XLT Crew Cab and standard on the Lariat Crew Cab is a power front passenger seat. The Lariat also gets a larger standard overhead console with improved storage.

Ordered new in 1/2002. Been all over the USA with it, off road, snow and towed cars and trailers, never had any problems at all. Only thing that quit was the overdrive button recently. Brakes replaced at 100k! New tires 3 times including originals, but other than that just routine maintenance. Used Mobil 1 oil since new. Ride is a bit bouncy but then I have offroad and camper packages so its expected. Wish the back seat folded flat for better loading, and would prefer a real ashtray like the older models had. I get 16mpg hwy driving with cruise and at speed limit, also added air bags in rear for hauling camper and building materials. I expect to go another 100k miles no problem.
Favorite Features
Can haul anything I tried-camper, trailers, boats, stones, dirt no problem
Suggested Improvements
Folding rear seat. make it go flat for better interior storage. Quicker steering/handling too would make it seem smaller, this thing is tough to drive in the city.

Bought it new. Wanted the 7.3 diesel before the 6.0's came out. Turned out that was the right move! Got 13 to 17 mpg until about 45000 miles. Once past that mileage is 15.5+ in town and 21+ on the highway. Really a great truck! The only repairs have been, center link got sloppy, replaced it, Cam position sensor $30.00 part and 10 minutes to change, and cd changer went bad after 5 years and hard use. Got a replacement cd module that bolts into the radio in 5 minutes. So easy it suprised me. No mechanical problems whatsoever, never dripped a drop of anything. I think i'll keep it!
Favorite Features
Power of the 7.3 diesel, drives itself on the highway. Thankful for good fuel mileage at $3.33 per gal. of Diesel as of 02 09 08 . Classic simple Ford truck styling. It's like the 72' or 79' Ford trucks in that it will look good 20-30 years from now.
Suggested Improvements
The A/C could be stronger. It actually is an excellent unit, just not arctic air!

I bought this truck used with 50,000 miles on it and in mint condition. I've owned a number of Ford trucks in the past including f-150s and f-250s and this one is the best of the bunch. It's an XLT with a long list of extras including the 6.8L v-10. All the interior options make for a nice enjoyable ride and that engine is fantastic. Endless acceleration and power.City driving gives about 10 mpg and highway is 15. This is driving with a lead foot.If the rpms are kept between 1500-2000 the mileage can be improved on. But, really, who buys a truck like this to drive like grandma?
Favorite Features
Comfortable seats, nice sound system, gobs of power.
Suggested Improvements
The only addition I would make would be a spray in bedliner.

My powerstroke diesel crew cab has dragged my 11,000 pound fifth wheel all over America for the last three years without a whimper. There's tons of room inside, and we stay comfortable no matter how long the trip or how hot the weather. It pulls my house up pretty stout grades at 70 mph without downshifting, which is amazing to me. With the bedcover closed and not towing, I get 20 mph on the road at 75 mph and a consistent 17 around town. What's not to like?
Favorite Features
Lots of power and low end torque.

Bought in June of 2005, This F250 SD extended cab LB 4x4 has been excellent so far. It is the "true blue" color which looks awesome. Inside, captains chairs with a huge center console. There are more cupholders than seats, (5) seats. (6) cupholders. Very easy to clean cloth. A/C thumbs up. Also very quiet, even with dual 4" straight pipes. 5.4L engine could use a little more power and the headlights could be brighter but truck is an excellent fun to drive vehicle, except in tight spots. Gas mileage with tonneau cover averages about 20 on highway, 8-12 in city. Braking power is enormous. Truck runs great with almost 61,000 miles. Only the trailer hitch rusted quite a bit but has not gotten to anything else.G
Favorite Features
4X4, A/C, power windows & locks. C/D + cassette radio. Big center console. extended cab longbed. Takes up 2 parking spots! Excellent visibility!
Suggested Improvements
Better headlights, more 5.4 V8 power. better undercoating for rust. deeper rain gutters.
