Summary
What Edmunds.com says
A class leader when it comes to ride, handling and hauling capability, but a little extra poundage and its lack of side airbags keep it from completely rolling over the competition.
Pros
Exceptional ride and handling characteristics, attractive and functional interior designs, multiple cab and bed configurations, most payload and towing capacity in the half-ton class.
Cons
Feels sluggish even with larger V8, no available side airbags, not much interior storage space.
What's New for 2004
The F-150 is fully redesigned for 2004. It's bigger, more powerful and offers a greater variety of features and body styles than ever before.

I have been over-all completely satisfied with my F150 even thought I have had to have my tranny rebuilt which is kind of expensive. I am a firm believer that you can get a good one and a bad one in anything and I believe I got the one with the tranny problem, after reading these other reviews I still believe I have a good truck, plan on keeping mine till the wheels fall off then get another one. By the way to all the folks having a problem with break squealing try putting ceramic brake pads one the truck not only does it stop the squealing but I haven't had to clean my wheels since putting them on. They leave behind no brake dust.
Favorite Features
The room, the power, the look (mine is solid black), and the AT tires which give her a big beefy look.
Suggested Improvements
Longer warranty, make the 4x4's sit level, not nose down, try to make the 5.4 less thirsty.

Review
It's a good handling truck overall. The only thing is it wears tires out fast and the front end shakes a lot. The engine at 100,000 miles had a tune up and it cost 1,800 dollars we had to replace 3 coils on the plugs. At 116,000 miles the motor went out and we spent 7,000 dollars on a new motor. The Ford company says the motors have very tight tolerances and have no room for error. The oil gummed up in the oil pan and stopped up the return tubes not allowing the oil to drain back down to the bottom end. So the oil pump failed and the cam phasers went then the bottom end. Most mechanics say it's a bad design on the motor.
Favorite Features
It rides good and has a good sound system. Its body style is good and sturdy. It hauls a good load and has a good deep bed.
Suggested Improvements
Fix the front end problems. Design a new and more dependable motor and fix the rotor problem and you'd have the greatest truck on the market.

I have owned Cheverolet Dodge and now Ford, trust me 3rd time is a charm. I drive on average 16000 miles a year and have experienced both quality and reliability in my F-150. I receive many complimentson how it looks and drives.
Favorite Features
Reliability, interior is made of quality material and not junk like Dodge and Chevy.

We bought the '04 FX4 new. For the first year it was great. Since then it has evolved into total junk. Use is very light duty and no offroad. At 25K brakes and rotors needed replaced. The AC barely works. At 46K the tranny needed rebuilt and Ford did not see a problem with that nor were they interested in my complaint. Window motors and the main switches plus u- joints replaced at the same time. This on top of $650 for the 45K mi service. Now the rear diff clutch pack is going. taking off from a stop while turning causes the truck to shudder until straightened out. With 48K now on the odo it has turned into a rattle trap. I should have payed the difference and gone back to a Toyota!
Favorite Features
Originally the design, nice ride and power appealled to me. The problems have erased those positive images.
Suggested Improvements
There is no use suggesting improvements as neither the dealer I bought it from nor Ford really care about standing behind their product, from my experience. They spend their money on marketing to lure new customers into thinking that "Quality is Job#1" and "Built Ford Tough" really mean something.
