Absoulutely the worst truck I've owned, two transmissions and one transfer case. Interior seats are not comfortable. Sliding cupholder broke the week I bought it. I've had nothing but trouble. Even the blinkers work only when they want to. I've owned Chevys and Dodges and this is the worst. I've only owned it for a little over two years. I can only imagine what I would have done if it was new.
Favorite Features
Good power from 5.4, looks great
Suggested Improvements
Better tranny and transfer case. And electronic switches (blinkers and 4x4 switch)

I have owned my 2002 Lightning since I bought it new in July, 2002. I would highly recommend this vehicle. It is powerful, tight, handles like a dream. Used 2002's are selling for $15,000 to $20,000. If you can find one in good shape, buy it! It's a terrific value. This is the fastest pick up on the road. After 6 1/2 years, I'm still in love with it and will never sell it.
Favorite Features
Looks good, fast, tight.
Suggested Improvements
Hood scoop.

Good daily driver or pull the race car to the track or a trip to Home Depot this is a great truck. For a small half ton it does the job. For serious big truck people this is not for you. This truck has some car characteristics. It's almost worthless and you can't help to love it.
Favorite Features
Acceleration, comfort, style,
Suggested Improvements
Bad gas mileage (which one should expect), a tape player in 02 why? Too much bump steer from 10' wide tire up front, too heavy. 4700 curb weight even feels heavy.

Excellent truckk for work, family, fun, always ready and never fails. I keep the maintenace as the manual suggests and today is 100k and many more miles and is a part of the family

More ground clearance for me, but as standard for the market is good, I'm planning to lift it

I have the FX4 with the 4.6 and five speed manual transmission. We are the second owner, love the pickup. Had it for over two years and had no problems. It has 110,000 miles on it and will drive it until the wheels fall off. We pull a trailer with it and pulls just fine. Plan on putting dual exhaust on it and will get a little more power out of it. Love the FX4 package and the ability to get the five speed in it, has been just as reliable as all my Fords have been
Favorite Features
Five speed manual transmission, FX4 off road package, will probably be the newest F150 I will ever own as they don't put a manual in the new ones
Suggested Improvements
Manual lockouts for the front axle
Good truck, starting to rattle badly

This truck has been a workhorse for me on the highway. Some years I will put 35K on the truck. It handles well, holds the road great and takes strong winds in stride. This truck is very easy on tires, I got 70K on the factory set and will approach that with the second set.
Favorite Features
It holds the road like a car, it is truly a very good on the road truck.
Suggested Improvements
The fuel economy really needs to improve. 13 city 17 highway. The drivers seat becomes uncomfortable after about 1 1/2 hours on the road. The seat could be longer to provide better suport under the knees and the sides could be wider before the seat flars up.

Awesome Truck

I love this truck. Never left me on the side of the road. Everything still original, except for tires. Still has original battery and shocks even. Had a 100,000 mile tune up done recently, which cost a bit (included engine flush, transmission flush and coolant flush), but nothing needed replacement. I expected something to be worn or borderline, but it got a clean bill of health. I plan on passing it along to my daughter for her first vehicle and getting another newer model.
Favorite Features
Very low noise in the cab. Handles like a luxury car. Light in the rear, but most trucks are. I'm getting 19.5 MPG HW and 18 City at 115,000 miles. With today's fuel cost, that's good news.
Suggested Improvements
From what I see on the newer models, I cannot think of a thing to improve on. If the newer models hold up as well as this and drive as good as or better, I will be satisfied (once I get over the sticker shock of the newer models).

Bought the truck from Palmetto in Miami, with 20,000 miles on it, untitled, salesman's demo. We are very rough on interiors. (Kids, dogs, motorcycle dirt)and after 120,000 miles it is still in very good condition, no rips. The paint is still almost perfect and very shiny. The seats are very comfy for grown-ups and kids...full back seat. Back seats fold down, some storage behind seats. Good ride. One of the best vehicles we have ever owned.
Favorite Features
Comfy seats. Full back seat, not a 'half seat' like some others. Doors open wide. Fairly quiet for a big truck. Pretty smooth ride.
Suggested Improvements
Center rear shoulder belt, this may be available in the newer models.

I bought this truck new. In over 5 years, It needed brakes once, a ball joint, and a set of rear springs. The factory steel bumper needs a repaint. That's all the bad news. Now for the good news. On the highway the 4.2 liter gets 20mpg for real! It can tow a 5800lb trailer at 65mph and still get 12-13mpg! The truck has never let me down.
Favorite Features
3.55 gears, longbed
Suggested Improvements
Better paint on front bumper

I finally got it. I've always wanted one and found my '02 at the Ford dealership. It only had 43k and in perfect condition. The performance is unreal. Gas mileage is ok for what's under the hood. I drove this truck from Florida to Ohio and averaged only 16 mpg. It was very comfortable and quiet. I towed a car back with it and lost 2 mpg averaging 13-14. I can't say enough about this truck. I really enjoy driving and owning it. Mine is red and completly stock. The best part is the blower whine. The truck handles like a sports car. Buy this truck. It is unreal. I always get comments and questions about it at the gas pump.
