Ford F-Series Gasoline Engine Problems

Re: 1991 f-150 problem. Need help please! [mike4578]

Mike , replace that module on the side of distributor. I have owned a lot of fords and every one has done what yours is doing and that module was the problem every time. That is your secondary ignition module and you will need a special tool to replace it sold at every car parts store for around 5 to ten dollars. The last module I bought was around 40 dollars. Ford F-Series Towing Questions

Re: F-150 Towing [softstor]

I have a 2004 Ford F-150 FX4 with a 5.4 V8 and a 3:73 rear gear. I have pulled a 3 axle 22' trailer weighing about 2300 lbs... On the trailer was a 1991 Mitsubishi Montero 4 door with a curb weight of 3800 lbs. I had tow this vehicle over 4 mountains about 90 miles and had no trouble climbing these mountains with a speed of approx. 40 mph. Given that it did pull this fairly ... Read More...

Ford F-Series General Operating Questions

Re: 1991 Ford F150 Wipers and Auto Doors [missouriford]

Checking the window motor is as simple as removing the wiring harness plug and energizing it or putting a meter on the socket. If the window isn't going up, but you can hear the motor working, you probally broke the bushings in the window motor (common occurance). Replacement bushings are available on EBay, I've heard of people fabricating them from vacuum hose ... Read More...

1991 Ford F150 Wipers and Auto Doors

I recently bought a 1991 Ford F150 and had a couple questions. How do you remove the Gear and Rod that hooks to the motor and then to the wiper arms. I didnt want to pry on them becuase Im not sure how the rod slides out. I need to get these out so I can clean the rod. Truck has sat awhile and has corroded on the rod making it noisy and slower. Second I have a bad automatic door ... Read More...

I am having the same trouble with my 1991 6 cyl. I have changed the fuel filter and the fuel pressure regulator -- no help. I'm beginning to think it is electrical. Have you discovered the cause yet on yor 1990? Read More...

Re: Ford F-150 Hesitation Problems [drhea]

Hi! I have a 1991 Ford 150 Lariat with a straight 6 engine. Recently, after purchasing the vehicle from a friend, I noticed it was sputtering and acting up when I first started pulling away from a drive or a stop. It does this alot between first and second...but gradually goes away when I get it up to 30-40 miles an hour. Thing is it doesn't do this all the time. It acts ... Read More...

Ford F-Series: Problems & Solutions

Re:Mac24 & Wijoco

"That's the problem.............. I don't want to spend $30k+ for a truck that just about manages to pull itself up to 'average'!" Understood:) I don't blame you, though if you are looking for a truck, the only option you have above average is the Tundra, next most reliable after that is the 2WD F-150. I wish there was some way I could post that stuff from CR here, ... Read More...

Reliability question

I am not really a Ford guy, I prefer Chevy over all others(best overall engine and transmissions IMHO but interior is small for my girth for the years I can afford to buy) however I would drive any American pickup over Japanese trucks. I am looking at a really nice 1991 F-150 XLT 4x4(locking hubs) with the 5.0 302 engine and a 4 or 5(not sure the guy at the dealer said ... Read More...

How to Choose a Truck

Look for the Ford, Chevrolet, Dodge, or GMC nameplate for a REAL Truck

But don't be fooled by the small light utility vehicles some people erroneously call pickups.      These light utility vehicles come with many names: Ranger, Colorado, Dakota, Canyon, Mazda B-Series, Nissan Frontier, and Toyota Tacoma.      REAL pickups have F-150, F-250, F-350, Silverado 1500 ...
