First off, I'd say I was biased as I've been a Toyota guy since 1991, largely based on the reliability factor. And I think that's largely the major consideration even now, although by some accounts, Chrysler and GM have improved their quality and reliability. I have a 2004 Ford F-150 FX4 with a 5.4 V8 and a 3:73 rear gear. I have pulled a 3 axle 22' trailer weighing about 2300 lbs... On the trailer was a 1991 Mitsubishi Montero 4 door with a curb weight of 3800 lbs. Checking the window motor is as simple as removing the wiring harness plug and energizing it or putting a meter on the socket. If the window isn't going up, but you can hear the motor working, you probally broke the bushings in the window motor (common occurance). I recently bought a 1991 Ford F150 and had a couple questions. How do you remove the Gear and Rod that hooks to the motor and then to the wiper arms. I didnt want to pry on them becuase Im not sure how the rod slides out. I need to get these out so I can clean the rod. Truck has sat awhile and has corroded on the rod making it noisy and slower. I am not really a Ford guy, I prefer Chevy over all others(best overall engine and transmissions IMHO but interior is small for my girth for the years I can afford to buy) however I would drive any American pickup over Japanese trucks.
