Review of the 2004 Ford F-350 Super Duty

  • When it comes to diesel power, the Ford Powerstroke is hard to beat, but the heavy-duty trucks from Dodge and GM offer more modern interiors and better handling.

  • Safety
  • Pros

Rugged construction, multiple configurations, competent off-road, 14,200-pound conventional trailer capacity.

  • Cons

Poor interior build quality, vague steering, manual-locking hubs still come standard on four-wheel-drive models.

  • What's New for 2004

The F-350 incorporates minor changes for 2004, including a reclining front bench seat, 60/40-split rear seat in crew-cab models, newly available foglights on the XLT 4x2 and a two-tone paint scheme on the Lariat and Harley-Davidson packages. All F-350s sold in California now have a 3.73 rear axle as standard equipment. An AM/FM stereo with single CD player is now standard on the XLT, while a cassette stereo is optional. Finally, a power-sliding rear window is available (late in the model year) on SuperCab and Super Crew models.

Vehicle: 2004 Ford F-350 Super Duty 4dr Crew Cab Lariat 4WD LB DRW (6.8L 10cyl 6M)

Wishing I had stayed with the diesel engine. Love the truck itself, but was not told the truth about mpg. Diesel mpg was @ 15 in city, V10 @ 9.6 . Salesman implied approx.same, not even close. Rancho suspension makes for a rough ride unless loaded down. Has great acceleration, towing power less of course than the Powerstroke, yet suffice.

Terrible

We bought a new F350 6.0 Deisel with the impression that if there was a problem Ford would fix it. NOT TRUE >> they have a statement of if a engine uses 1 quart of oil per 600 to 800 miles there isn't anything wrong with the engine! Imagine not only putting in gas but also a gallon of oil. MY MY how nice to have a new 40,000 dollar truck. NEVER AGAIN!!!!!

Great truck

Vehicle: 2004 Ford F-350 Super Duty 4dr Crew Cab Lariat 4WD LB DRW (6.8L 10cyl 6M)

There was no option for the 6.0 Diesel so had to choose the 10cyl. In 4 months the truck has over 40k miles and gets 21.4 mpg using reclaimed oil/diesel mix costing about $0.38/gal.As with our other company trucks the leather is the poorest quality to be found in a vehicle. The sheet metal is so thin that damage occurs just shutting doors. None of our trucks have ever failed to perform with 86 1-ton having 800+k miles. Hope this new engine and trans holds up like Ford's of old. Wish these $45,000 trucks had better metal quailty and interior leather. Oh, the power window on passenger has been replaced 3 times.
