2011 Ford F-250 Super Duty XLT 4dr Crew Cab SB (6.2L 8cyl 6A)
Purchased a 2011 F-250 with the new 6.2V8, and 3.73 gears (has a 5th wheel towing capacity of 12,000 lbs). Truck was awesome until I pinned onto my 5th wheel! The vehicle is way underpowered to handle a 10,000 lb trailer. It would shift constantly between 5th and 2nd speed to maintain highway speeds (40 to 55 mph) reaching 5000 rpm at times. Dealer tried the truck himself, and could not believe the lack of torque & HP. He was most helpful by taking the truck back, and ordering a new one with the 4.30 gears. I am hoping it will pull, but am afraid it will be thirsty!

Ford needs to freshen up the box of the truck, it looks like it was left over from an old 1990ies truck. Towing capacities should reflect more obtainable results. The 'towing capacities' are greatly over estimated.
I hate to tell you but any smaller gas V8 engine like GM 6.0 or Ford 6.2 trying to pull a truck weight of over 8K, plus your trailer of 10,000lb just isn't going to get you there anytime fast.
You definitely need the 4.30 gears in that truck and yes your fuel mileage goes down empty but stays the same when loaded though.
Dude, this is why most people buy diesel trucks.
The only gassers that pull well (still not as good as diesel's are the old Ford V10 and GMs 8liter which both are extinct now do to thirstiness.
Its goes back to the old saying you get what you pay for.
Go buy a 6.7 diesel of GM or Ford and i promise you will smile more.
