1999 Ford F-250 Super Duty XLT 4dr Crew Cab LB
Drove Ford Chevy & Dodge. Dodge 4x4 V8: no crew cab, rough idle, mushy cornering. Chevy: no 4 wheel disks, lower apparent build quality especially interior fit & finish. Stiff twin I beam front suspension on the 2x4 corners best. 12~13 MPG commuting, to 8 MPG ave with 11,000+ pound slide-in camper rig.
Added FORD & aftermarket anti-sway bars, air springs & 110 PSI Goodyear steel carcas tires on the single rear wheels to kill over-steer. Rates 8800 pounds max, but run a scale-verified 11,000+ pounds regularly, + 2 motorcycles on a front rack into dual Draw-Tite and Warn front-end receiver hitches.
Lateral stiffness of twin I beam 4x2 suspension. Crew cab. Best in class MPG. Smooth quiet V10 (bangs & taps upon start).
> 38 gal tank. This truck with Chevy's 5 speed Allison and Duramax aluminum diesel would be awesome, would like to see Ford offer similar. Bench seat upolstery a little loose looking, seats, as in all American cars, are a little too soft.
