| Test Driver Ratings & Comments |
| Acceleration comments | Pretty impressive that this turbo V6 can run consistent 6.5s to 60 mph. Some initial lag off the line but then a seriously healthy midrange punch. Quickest run with stability control off and just a smidge of power braking. Power brake too much and the wheels spin wildly. Manual shifting capability via silly rocker switch on console shifter. Will hold gears at 6,100 rpm. No throttle blip on downshifts. 100-mph top speed limiter. |
| Braking rating | Acceptable |
| Braking comments | Decent stopping distances for a big, heavy pickup. Lots of nosedive with only an occasional brief rear tire lock-up. Brake pedal has a nice firm feel and it stays that way throughout repeated runs. Strong brake odor from second run on and it just got stronger. Still, pedal travel remained consistent. |
| Handling rating | Below Average |
| Handling comments | Slalom: The steering has more heft to it than expected for an F-150 but it's still very slow. You have to turn early for each cone due to how slowly the steering reacts, how much the body will roll and how much the tires will slide. Still pretty composed overall, though. ESC "off" isn't really off, as it added braking while I power-on oversteered through final gate. Skid pad: Not much to do here -- just turn and keep turning as perpetual understeer sets in. Not much communication from the steering as to what the front tires were up to, but apparently they weren't gripping. Stability system was not a factor on or off, hence the identical numbers. |
