Review of the 2005 Ford F-150

  • A class leader when it comes to ride and handling, the F-150 is dragged down by its excessive weight and lack of key safety features.

  • Safety
  • Pros

Exceptional ride and handling characteristics, attractive and functional interior designs, multiple cab and bed configurations, the most payload and towing capacity in the half-ton class.

  • Cons

Feels sluggish even with larger V8, no available side airbags, not much interior storage space.

  • What's New for 2005

New packages this year include a Work Truck Group with argent bumpers and a vinyl bench seat, and a King Ranch Group with exclusive interior and exterior trim. A 4.2-liter V6 has been added as the base engine, along with a five-speed manual transmission.

Vehicle: 2005 Ford F-150 4dr SuperCab XLT 4WD Styleside 6.5 ft. SB (4.6L 8cyl 4A)

Bought this superbly maintained low mileage 4X4 with plow, gently used. Good power and interior comfort, but I was disturbed to find both front 4 wheel drive actuators went out at 26,800 miles. It would have been past warranty (because of age, not miles). However, the original owner bought extended warranty, which does transfer, although there is a fee and some effort to get it transferred. It was fixed under warranty. The parts were in stock, which suggests to me this is a common problem. I don't think it's a good sales point that major things break on a vehicle with under 30,000 miles. Otherwise, the truck looks and runs well.

Great comfort and handling for a 4 wheel drive truck. Corners very well. Steering is tight and turning radius is good for a truck this size. MPG has been 12.8 - 13.2 city, 17.2 highway. Power outlet and plenty of room in back for my son and his CD player or video games. Running boards are definitely a necessity. Have had zero problems after 1 year of owner ship.

Awesome truck

Vehicle: 2005 Ford F-150 4dr SuperCab XLT 4WD Styleside 6.5 ft. SB (4.6L 8cyl 4A)

Great truck, best looking truck on the market, moves through deep mud with ease. Very cozy ride, new suspension is sweet. Tailgate is light as a feather; also since the tire bumpout is in the bed it seems smaller than previous model which equals more bed space

Full of vibrations

Truck is all right if you don't mind driveline vibrations that Ford can't fix, oil leaks and rattles which could be caused by the vibrations.

Best f-150 ever

Vehicle: 2005 Ford F-150 4dr SuperCab XLT 4WD Styleside 6.5 ft. SB (4.6L 8cyl 4A)

This is our second F-150 and by far the best. Great, smooth ride, powerful engine, and nimble handling. We purchased the extra cab and have enough room for three car seats in the back. No problems what so ever. Fuel economy not bad either.

Surprisingly high quality!

This was my very first truck that I have ever purchased. After researching and test driving all the competitors (Silverado, Ram, Tundra), I have absolutely no regrets about buying an F-150. The body style is attractive and burly. Ride is quite comfortable, and the overall quality just surpasses everything that I was expecting.
