I purchased a 2002 Ford F150, 5.4 16V SOHC, gas, 92,000 miles. Is this a reliable enough vehicle that I should not entertain an extended warranty. I'm looking at The Penn Warranty Corporation, Route 66 and that's about it right now. There are so many bad ones out there.

My 2002 F150 (150K) started making a tapping sound. The noise gets louder on accel and decel. Does not sound like a valve. Slight tap on idle. I thought it may have been comming from the top end so we replaced PCV, coils, and plugs. No luck. There is no smoke, no loss of power, no loss of oil pressure, no check engine code, or excessive oil or gas use. On ... Read More

I have been a Ford fan and customer for 40+ years.....but that has/is changing. My 2002 F150 Lariat Supercrew with 66,250 miles spit out a spark plug while I was on vacation. 2002 F150 with smaller V8 began to make expensive exhaust noises under the hood at only 35000 miles. I have a 2002 F150 with 80K miles. The tie rod on the driver's side snapped off while I was driving. It actually punctured the aluminum wheel! I have had a 2002 F150 for 2 years. I have had the rotors turned 3 times. I mostly do highway driving (cruise control), and some light duty house work on the weekends. So I wouldn't exactly call it an "abusive" environment. Ford sells a premium rotor that is 3/8" thicker, which, interestingly enough, still fits into the stock caliper. Their stock rotors just suck, they aren't thick enough.
Have a 2002 ford f250..bought used had 14,000 miles..now at 22,000 ...truck had vibration when braking..ford garage fixed before i purchased. I'm in the market for a 2001-2002 model F-150 SuperCrew. This is primarily because of my price limit and not wanting to buy too old. However, as there are low mileage 1999-2000 models in decent condition, I'm wondering what minor modifications (if any) Ford made from 1999 to 2000 to 2001 to 2002. Are there any owners of these models who can provide me the differences?
I am starting to see screamer ads for high 19's- low 20's for 2003 XLT 150 SCrews, depending on rebates and whether or not you finance through Ford. My question is...... If the 2002/2003 USED models (Screw XlT 4x2 less than 25k miles) are normally advertised for 20k, will they now be advertised (or sold) for less?

I read with interest biscayne's comments on the F150 seats. I test drove a 2002 Supercrew Lariat 4WD yesterday and was really disappointed in the seats.
