I have a 1999 Ford F150, 4.6 engine, with an automatic trans. The trans worked good , no problems , the guy I bought it from said he just had the trans rebuilt. It drove fine, then all of a sudden just started to slip completely in all gears , and when I shut it off for awhile, then started it again it run fine for a short distance , then ... Read More
yes, we were told by the auto shop that we needed a new transmission for 4 grand. So we bought one at a wrecking yard and had it installed for a total cost of 1150.00 Trans. and labor. It ran fine for a few days and then it made the same sound and broke down. Had it towed to Ford Dealer and now they said we need a whole NEW ENGINE! ... Read More
This is a very common problem with 1999-2000 F-150's. The dealer charges several hundred dollars to replace instrument cluster circuit board. Fortunately it is fairly easy to fix yourself. I have a 1999 Ford F150 and the nylon (?) bushing on one of the linkage arms broke and the wipers don't work. I have ordered a set of four bushings through RockAuto.com (Dorman part number 49451, "Wiper Linkage Bushing") at $4.92 plus $7.78 for priority mail shipping. I've tried, without success, to get the wiper motor and the linkage arms out from the space under the cowl in front of ... Read More
My 1999 F-150 has three adjusters per headlight, and only two of those are "adjustable". The third seems to be factory-set. My lower adjusters are seized because of rust on the adjuster metal screw thread. I've done the usual WD-40 soak but still can't move the screw in the threaded plastic hub of the adjuster, and at least one of the hubs already has a crack running along its length. Does ... Hi, did you ever find out the results to your sounds in the rear wheels? I have a 1999 F-150 Flareside Supercab 4x2 Lariat with 4-Wheel Disk Brakes. At 102,000 miles, my truck is doing the same thing?
I have a ford F-150 1999 2x4 4.2. Last week I had a light check engine in my dash. The transmission had troubles going from second to third gear. After puting the computer on it, it said to change the selinoid that changes the gears in the transmission. So I did with a new filter and new oil. Fired it up and it went very well.Once the trans. oil got hot it ... Read More
I have a 1999 F-150 with a V6 4.2 and it is throwing whiteish smoke from the tailpipe and it has a somewhat rough idle. I checked the compression and the vaccum and they are fine. I pressure checked the cooling system for a possible blown head gasket and no leaks. I checked for codes and there aren't any and the fuel trim and oxygen sensors seem to be working properly. ... i have a 1999 ford f150 that will not start the key will turn but have to use a screwdriver and touch the 2 cylenoid post and it is sounding like it is not gettting fuel and i think the wires in the ignition switch are not touching. would that cause the antitheft system to block the fuel off from the engine?
Not much to go on and I'm unsure of your dignostic ability, but here is my slant. Sounds like you have a cold start problem only. No check engine light or trouble code. Spray a liberal amount of starter fluid into the throttle body not the air cleaner area, and then imediately replace the intake hose prior to starting it cold. If it starts up right away, Your lean, or not ... Read More
I have a 1999 F-150. Bought it used. I noticed the other day a slight squeal and clanking noise coming from the passenger side rear area. It sounds to me like the u-joints on the drive shaft are banging around but I'm not sure. It could also be a wheel bearing. The truck is a 4x2. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks

Get your VIN # and enter it into this Web site. Should break it down to tell you what all the numbers mean along with the axle ratio: Ford VIN Decoder
I have a 1999 F150, with 4.6L V8, supercab, auto transmission. The code for the axle ratio is H9. When I called a Ford service dept, they told me they could only check back to 2000, but the H9 indicated a 3.55 axle ratio. I checked the owners manual and couldn't find anything. Can anyone verify the H9 is a 3.55 for a 1999? The reason I'm asking is depending on ... Read More
Does anyone have any of the details behind the $249 a month (36 month term) with $1999 due at lease signing on these vehicles? I live in Indiana if that matters. If no one knows the details, then does anyone know what Ford uses for the residual value and lease rate on this vehicle. I am interested in the lowest mileage option (10,500 miles). Thanks in advance for any info.
True story, I "loved" Ford. I had a ford 1999 F150 XLT that was close to perfect (I even bought it used) THENNNN the trouble started. I traded it in for a shiny new 2004 model that I loved, for three days that is. Soon after buying the truck they determined it needed a new transmission, K, things happen, I can handle it.... then my brakes started vibrating. Long story short ... Read More
My 1999 F-150 started indicating overheating. After driving about 5 or 10 miles the temp gauge starts going up. I'm in the market for a 2001-2002 model F-150 SuperCrew. This is primarily because of my price limit and not wanting to buy too old. However, as there are low mileage 1999-2000 models in decent condition, I'm wondering what minor modifications (if any) Ford made from 1999 to 2000 to 2001 to 2002. Are there any owners of these models who can provide me the differences?
I've been raised on ford trucks.
