09 Explorer- Meets expectations!
By Steve on

Vehicle

2009 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer 4dr SUV (4.6L 8cyl 6A)

Review

We wanted a vehicle that could tow 5000lbs, seat 7, be comfortable, have nice amenities, drive nicely, got decent gas mileage, and over-all be a nice family vehicle. Our 2009 Explore E.B. has met all of that, and done so in surprisingly good fashion. I like it, wife loves it, kids approve, dog wags its tail evertime whe jumps in also, win, win, win, win!

Best Features

SIRIUS, SYNC, Quiet ride, V-8, Towing capability.

Worst Features

Air conditioned seats available like the Expeditions.

I am the original poster from above (Steve), forgot my sign-on info, so had to redo..anyway. UPDATE: After 7 years and 130,000 additional miles here are my thoughts/issues. Vehicle reliability has been 9.5 out of 10. Only "repairs" have been a left front wheel bearing, clogged windshield washer "squirters", and A/C recharge. Maintenance has included 3 sets of tires, rear brakes, 2 transmission services, and multiple oil changes and air filter changes . Pending maintenance: rear diff fluid replacement, coolant replacement, front brake replacement, and possibly 3rd trans service/fluid replacement. Current AVG fuel economy sits at just over 18mpg with a mix of city and hwy ( 40/60 split), hwy mpg's hover around 21mpg, city about 16 mpg. Engine has performed well, plenty of grunt, good towing, no complaints. Transmission has be problem free, hoping that continues. We keep looking at newer SUV's to replace this one with, just can justify spending $35k + to get something comparable to replace it with. This has been a GREAT vehicle for our situation, may have to keep it to 200k!

Meant to say "cant justify spending" vice "can".
