The member above lives in Venezuela and has a 2008 Ford Eddie Bauer V8 with a similar problem - the thunking - and he also went to many shops where they told him it was normal and there was no way to fix it. Then he contacted Ford of Venezuela via their website and they called him and send him to a specific shop where, after 3 years of having this ... Read More

I purchased my 2002 ford explorer in 2008 and since then have been trying to find the factory set keypad code. I have been asked to bring it over to the dealership to get my code after I would have parted with $100. I didn't go to the dealership since I found on my manual that the code is located inside the car on the computer module. This module I have ... Read More
A couple months ago my wife & I purchased a used 2008 Ford Explorer from a local dealership with 40 some thousand miles on it. And recently looked under the drivers seat & found the underside of the seat & the gearing all rusted & the floor board is rusted underneath the carpet. How can there be rust from the inside out & is there any action that can be taken ... Read More
My mom has a 2007 Eddie Bauer 2WD V6 that is having the same problem. It has 118k miles on it, so there's no hope of any warranty repairs. But I've seem references to several TSBs that mentioned this and the recommended fix was to 'reprogram/reset the PCM" which hasn't been done. Is that something that a reputable independent repair shop could do or is the dealer my only option? If ... Read More
I currently own a 2003 Toyota 4Runner, V-8, Sport, 4WD, loaded with every option. By the way, also have 2008 Toyota Prius. Like previous Ford Explorer's, I have had no problem with the 4Runner. What deterred me from buying another 4Runner is all the plastic crap in the interior, rough riding, cramped space, lack of refinement in the audio and navigation system, expensive maintenance, etc. Not really updated for the 21st ... With the 2007 Ford Explorer (V8 Eddie Bauer) that we had we took it back to the dealer 5 times and either they "did a PCM update" to try to correct the problem or they said they could not duplicate the problem. The bumping, thumping at times was so violent that we actually would look to see if someone rear-ended us. We did get a exchange vehicle through the Lemon law ... Read More
We had a 2007 Ford Explorer (Eddie Bauer) that did the same thing. Right before stopping the car would lurch or have a bump. If not coming to a complete stop and starting up again the vehicle would bump. We tried 5 times to have the car repaired and they failed to fix it. We went with the lemon law and won. We had the choice of what was wanted to ... Read More

I have the same problem on my '97 Explorer. There is a sensor on mine that is part of the door lartch. Mine is broken. I am looking for the part... And how to replace it... There are instructions for a 2003 Explorer at http://www.sparkys-answers.com/2008/10/2003-ford-explorer-door-ajar-light.html but my sensor switch does not appear to be the same.
Anybody know how Ford has increased the mileage of the Explorer from 2006 to now? I just bought a used '06 V8 that is EPA rated at 19 hwy (according to the 2008 method) but the '10 model is rated at 21 hwy. I just wondered if I can make any of the changes Ford must have in later model years to achieve those higher numbers.
Anyone know of any 2008 Ford Explorers still on a lot in the NJ/PA,NY, CT area; Ford has deep incentives on these if they can be found. By the way...I need 4WD or AWD & 3rd Row? Will also consider used if mint and low, low milage....Thanks

Join the club. Last year, June 2008 I had to have my transmission replaced at 42,000 miles and was out of pocket at about $2200. I bought it new, original owner. Had a similar problem with my 2008 Ford Explorer. The car would die usually in the middle of an intersection-extremely dangerous situation. Had the battery and alternator tested on the vehicle and they checked out ok. The voltage guage would be a little low of middle range. Car_man, I'm in Maryland, and am looking at leasing a 2008 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer v8 4x4. MSRP with options is $39,345 and the invoice is $36,411. What is the (1) residual value and (2) interest rate to lease this vehicle for 39 months with 15,000 miles per year? Thanks in advance!

Hi davidr719. In your post you mentioned this truck's MSRP and what cash incentives are available on it. Are you being given a dealer discount on this truck on top of these incentives? If not, you need to do some more negotiation. The selling prices of leased vehicles are negotiable, just as if you were paying cash for or financing them. If I was in the market for a 2008 Explorer ... Read More

I am guessing that it is most likely the Air Conditioning clutch making the sound. This sound may be normal, as sometimes they can be heard in the car. Most people don't notice it because they have the radio on. Open the hood and see if you can tell where the sound is coming from. Your car is way too new to be asking here, take it to the dealer and ... Read More

I was at a Mercury dealer yesterday and noticed that the 2008 Mariner is out. Interestingly, the MPG dropped by 2 MPG. I thought that strange so I inquired and found out that since they are 2008's, the sticker reflects the new EPA "real world" miles per gallon. So that got me thinking.
