Having had Explorers in the past I was skeptical about how different the 2006 model could be. The difference is dramatic. This vehicle is solid and quiet. Finally Detroit is not just playing catch up with the European and Japanese car companies. This vehicle is every bit as good and in some cases miles better than the competition.
Ford carried over a lot of the F150 styling for the new Explorer interior - good move. The vehicle is screwed together very well and takes SUV comfort to a level I thought available only on imports.
Ford has to get rid of the turn signal stalk/wiper assembly - ancient technology. Move the wiper control to the 3:00 position on the steering column a la BMW. Heated seats as a stand alone option would also be nice.
