From C5 'vette fo 05 Explorer
By pathfinder on
2005 Ford Explorer XLS Rwd 4dr SUV (4.0L 6cyl 5A)
Living in the Texas Hill Country made driving my C 5 Corvette a lot of fun, but I got tired of being surrounded by huge SUVs and pickups. A base Explorer seemed to be the safe, not too big and not too expensive, choice. Making an SUV attractive is sort of like putting earrings on a hog. You can only hide so much ugly, but Ford did a commendable job with the Explorer.
Favorite Features
What brought me to the Explorer was the standard stabilty control. If it saved my butt in the C 5, I really needed it in a SUV. It rides and handles better than others I drove and is very quiet up to about 75. The controls are clear, well placed and intuitive. It is a great daily driver.
Suggested Improvements
Dislikes: The plastic trim looks as cheap as the price I paid. All Explorers should come stock with step bars. Ford is losing a lot of female potential buyers. The style is basic brick, but a rounding on the edges would help, but Ford don't go nuts like you did with the third generation Taurus.
