Review

Great SUV, fun to drive, nice interior and great design for driver's wheel, with radio and air controls handy. Average milage between highway and city is about 12 mpg. AWFUL!!!!

2004 Ford Explorer SUV XLT Rwd 4dr SUV (4.0L 6cyl 5A)

Review

I decided to buy the explorer instead of a grand cherokee or 4 runner because I liked the styling and it seemed to be the perfect size for my family...not too big, but bigger than most mid-sized suvs. I bought a new vehicle because we were about to have a new baby and I wanted something reliable...that has not been the case. I have had the rear- end replaced because it was making a loud noise. I have had the engine light come on due to a spark plug problem. Two tires were replaced due to "abnormal wear," and the interior has had some problems. I have been disappointed with this vehicle, even though the service from Ford has been good.

Favorite Features

keypad on door that locks/unlocks vehicle

Suggested Improvements

BETTER QUALITY!!! The rear-end problem that my explorer had is a common problem, I don't understand why it has not been corrected if this is the case.

Review

Have had problems with the trans from day one! First two times to a dealer they say they cant find a problem. Third time I find out there is a TSB to replace the torque converter etc. That lasted all of 3,000 miles before the trans started to act up again. (very poor shifts, slippage, noise from trans). Oh yeah, and the vibration at 75mph is a pain after a few hours on the highway.

Favorite Features

V8 power, AWD, looks.

Suggested Improvements

Rework the trans or come up with a fix for this one.

Review

Unlike those car-based SUVs that are nothing more than glorified station wagons the Explorer combines real truck capabilities (such as off-road and towing) with luxury sedan comforts.

Favorite Features

V8 power, 290 watt stereo system, independent rear and interior ergonomics.

Suggested Improvements

A DVD Navigation System and a flatter folding third row seat.
