1998 Ford Explorer SUV XLT 4dr SUV 4WD

Review

I bought my explorer about a year ago
when it had 94,000 miles. Now it has
104,000. It makes noises when you
drive. I was told to replace the shocks
so I did. It help somewhat but mad the
misstake and put rancho shocks on.
Supper rough ride!! I bought leather
seats for it and realy like them.
Engine seems like a good one except
when below 25 degrees, then makes funny
noises when started. I would recomend,
but trading in, in the next week for a
pick-up.

Best Features

all the options, lighted mirrors, over head consol, smooth shifting, fast excelerating when needed. Nice stock radio

Worst Features

don't like, auto 4x4, rough ride, lots of odd noises.

1998 Ford Explorer SUV Limited 4dr SUV 4WD

Review

I have had this vehicle since it's
birth and am sad to sell it as it has
NEVER left me stranded- and has done
very well in 2 small accidents. The
tures ROCK, and I love the steering
controls for heat, cruise, tunes. I
have a bunch of kids and moved into a
Toyota Sequoia. I only hate that they
don't hold their value due to so many
program cars!

Best Features

tunes, reliability (BIGGIE), steering wheel controls for so many things, moon roof, durability, too many to list- I LOVE THIS CAR!!!

Worst Features

LED for tunes went out, but now comes and goes, so don't know if it's a short or what.

1998 Ford Explorer SUV XL 4dr SUV 4WD

Review

Purchased for way below book and made
up the difference in repairs. Power
steering, torshion bars, shocks,
ignition and ABS all repaired in 14
months. Every 3 months I was in
getting something else fixed. $2000
out the window. Anyone want to buy a
Ford?

Best Features

Excellent power and towing capacity. Lots of knooks and cranny's to put stuff, easy to read instrument panel. Uber adjustable seat.

Worst Features

Reliability. Stuff needs to work ALL THE TIME! Locks, radio/CD, etc.

1998 Ford Explorer SUV XLT 4dr SUV 4WD

Review

Although my Explorer has had minor
powertrain repairs, they occurred
during the 6y/75K extended warranty.
My other complaint is the driver's
side seat recliner lever which was
placed in a terrible location. It has
broken off since every time you exit
the vehicle, you hit the lever with
your left leg. Other than the lever, I
love my Explorer because it still does
a lot of things well.

Best Features

Ability to drive 90mph comfortably for hours, turn onto snow covered 2-lane with the shift-on-the-fly 4x4, and have plenty of room inside.

Worst Features

MOVE THE SEAT RECLINE LEVER!

1998 Ford Explorer SUV XLT 4dr SUV 4WD

Review

When Ford built this Explorer XLT, I
think someone must of thinking of
excellent. They have done a great job
on this truck. I have owned other SUVs
and this one has to be the best so far.

The only bad thing I have had happen is
now I have to buy a trailer to carry
things, since that "COMPANY" has us
Explorer owners as being "bad risk".

My XLT has all the features of the
Eddie Bauer for a few $$$$ less. Which
I like.

Best Features

Lumbar supports, speaker setup, liftgate (easier than my old Blazer's tailgate), dual air and the trailer towing package.

Worst Features

The only 2 improvements I made to my truck after purchasing it was a class III/IV hitch and Sirius Satelite Radio (which I understand is available is the 2004)
