Review

I love this truck! Only problem so far was covered by warrenty. Size is perfect for someone like me, no kids, 2 dogs, unmarried. Handles like a dream in the snow and carries 4 snow boards, 4 people and all the gear without any trouble or feeling weighed down. Surf board fits on top and running boards make it easy enough to strap the board on top. This truck has been very cheap to own and so far has only required maintenance to keep running; it has over 125k miles on it! Can't say enough good things about it and I will drive it until it wont start anymore. Switched out the stock shocks for Monroe and couldn't be happier. It's the only mod I made and I will never go back to stock shocks.

Best Features

Plenty of cargo room for the size of the truck. Love that I can just throw stuff in it. High enough to be able to see traffic infront of me but low enough to not feel like I'm struggling to get in it. Parallel parks in the smallest places. Turning radius is the best I've ever had on a truck.

Worst Features

Have the rear seats lock into place when up, they tend to flip up when people are getting out of the back. Install better shocks, my mod didn't cost that much; just more of a pain that I had to get it done. Stereo is OK but for what I paid for this truck I can't really complain too much.

Review

Had to get a car quickly as I was turning in my lemon 2005 Saturn L300. I passed by a used car lot close to where I live and found my black Exlorer Sport 4x4. So far, this vehicle has been pretty much trouble free and handles decently for a vehicle of this type. I really enjoy having a 2 door and only hope Ford will bring it back.

Best Features

Front and rear air cond.,moon roof, overhead console with temp. & compass, 6 cd radio, cargo room, turning radius is very short, 4x4 is easily engaged with dash switch, leather interior. Car is almost fully loaded, only missing side seat air bags.

Worst Features

Bolt rust could be eliminated, auto trans shifter could be more practical if it was located in the center console and parking brake should be there also instead of a foot operated unit.

Review

Bought it used from a dealer who used it in the winter. Great vehicle for New England snow storms. Built well, low maintenance costs. MPG is not great, it has a smaller tank so it sometimes seems worse than it is. Towed approx. 1500 lbs. easily, sometimes felt like I wasn't towing anything. Rides real rough, had to replace rear shocks at 22,000 and front at about 45,000. Overall not a bad car.

Best Features

Power, handling, visibility, towing capabilities, and 4-wheel drive.

Worst Features

Gas mileage. Rough ride, rides worse than an F-250, one bump makes the whole car shake. Rusty running boards.

Review

I bought my Explorer with 46,xxx miles on it. Now at 146,xxx miles, I've grown really fond of almost everything about the truck. Except the fact that I've had to rebuild the transmission twice! It went out once right before 100,000 and again about 40k later! The moonroof leaks pretty bad, too. It's treated me great otherwise, but I'm sick of replacing the transmission and the 18 MPG, too.

Best Features

Rear air controls, power moonroof

Worst Features

Rear speakers point right into passenger thighs, which is absurd. Rear seats don't lock into place when up, so they flip up when passengers try to get out of them.

Review

I have driven the 2001 Ford Exploer Sport for 5 years during my college days. Just to give you insight as to who I am, I am a 23 year old engineering student studing mechanical engineering I am looking to buy a bmw 330i, 2006 now. Speaking for SUV's I want to say that Ford has built a great truck in the Explorer Sport. This is because first, the reliablility is exceptional. If you maintaine regular fluid changes, the sport will run like the first day you owned it. Second, if you do have to maintain something large, the repairs are relatively inexpensive compared to European counterparts, (Japanese SUV's may be more expensive to repair too). Thirdly, The torgue that the sport has is plenty fun

Best Features

Torque is exhillerating. Makes it feel like a much faster vehicle.

Worst Features

The seats could have been much better thought out. Somewhat uncomfortable.
