Review of the 2004 Ford Expedition

  • Roomy on the inside and agile out on the road, the Expedition is a solid choice among full-size SUVs.

  • Safety
  • Pros

Well thought-out interior with plenty of room for passengers and their belongings, handy fold-flat third-row seat, impressive handling for its size, great crash test scores.

  • Cons

Needs more power, ride quality suffers on rough roads.

  • What's New for 2004

Redesigned last year, the Expedition offers few changes for 2004. Option packages and trim levels have been slightly revised, and in some cases, renamed. The XLS replaces last year's XLT Value trim level, while a new NBX trim level replaces the FX4 off-road package. And there is now an XLT Sport trim level. A tire-pressure monitoring system is now standard on XLT, XLT Sport and Eddie Bauer, while the previously standard limited-slip rear axle is now an option.

Vehicle: 2004 Ford Expedition XLT NBX 4WD 4dr SUV (5.4L 8cyl 4A)

I bought this Expedition after saying I was done with Ford after 2 bad experiences with Ford vehicles in the past. I turned in my lease lemon 05 F150 in 06 and saw this Expedition on the lot and something told me to give Ford 1 more try. I'm glad I did. I bought it with 37k and 4 yrs later and with 76,XXX + miles it has been a great vehicle. Only issues I've had was a rear end whine and a sticky brake caliper. That's it. Both fixed under warranty years ago. It has been the best bad winter weather vehicle I've ever driven and that's saying a lot here in Michigan! It's made me a Ford Guy again. I think you should buy one.

My Expedition has 50k miles and has been in to the dealer for service one time. It is the most reliable vehicle I have ever owned. I tow a tow hauler to the dunes once a month and it tows a 6000 pound trailer with ease. It powers up hills and pulls the trailer through the deep sand. Ford makes the best trucks in my eyes.

I traded in a Honda S2000 for the Expedition; quite a change. The Expedition is much more practicable, but not quite as fun to drive. I like the interior design, the seats are comfortable and it's very quiet on the road. We towed about 5,000 lbs from Tampa, FL to Whidbey Island, WA (about 3,500 miles in all). The truck did great, even over the 10,000' passes in Colorado. It was extremely comfortable the entire trip and we managed about 13.5 MPG.The only problem I've had with the truck is the passenger side fuse panel shorted. I came outside one day and the brake lights were on - with no one in the car! Ford fixed it and it's been a great truck since then. I paid $36,300 in TX.

Can't car wash

Vehicle: 2004 Ford Expedition XLT NBX 4WD 4dr SUV (5.4L 8cyl 4A)

Beautiful black exp. I love it. Except that everytime I get washed, I have to spend up to half an hour wiping the water/wax that drains from the mirror areas, the door handles, the real window and assorted other collection points. If you don't wipe, it streaks as you drive and looks like hell. I like to keep this baby clean but this is too much trouble. For this reason alone, I would never buy another Ford SUV or truck. Drives me nuts.

Strong and solid suv/truck

Vehicle: 2004 Ford Expedition XLT NBX 4WD 4dr SUV (5.4L 8cyl 4A)

I have wanted one for ever i finaly bought one and it is great. I love them large and roomie. Chevy has nothing on the size or the handline and the well built quality in this truck. Chevy does not have the size at all. only one thing i would love to have a 5.8 ver a 5.4 351. Ford has came along way. Chevy needs to go back to the board when they built a good p-up the last good one was 1970 c-10 4x4 solid truck well built and powerful and they need to get away from the box and go cab foward.
