2003 Ford Expedition Eddie Bauer 4WD 4dr SUV (5.4L 8cyl 4A)

Review

Problems with navigation system. The hardware is exceptional, the software package is poor. There are large gaps in its maps, for WY in NAV sys only covers one city completely. I say that tongue and cheek because there are probably black holes with that location as well. The neighborhood I live in has been around for over 25 years but there are parts the software considers us off roading. There are other software packages with complete maps, eg LEXUS. Also, most dealerships don't load the software until you pay for the vehicle so you cannot see the gaps. In its defense: software works great for maps it has but who whats to be lost with a clueless NAV sys.

Favorite Features

Great interior, nicely laid out

Suggested Improvements

Better NAV software

2003 Ford Expedition Eddie Bauer 4WD 4dr SUV (5.4L 8cyl 4A)

Review

I HAVE LESS THEN 3000 MILES ON MY NEW EDDIE BAUER 2003 EXPEDITION AND SO FAR I HAVE BEEN PLEASENTLY SURPRISED! HANDLING IS VERY GOOD FOR IT'S SIZE ,EASY TO PARK,AND IT HANDLES WELL ON THE TURNPIKE. IT'S A FUN CAR TO DRIVE AND HAS PLENTY OF ROOM FOR THE GRANDCHILDREN WITH ALL THEIR FISHING EQUIPMENT.

Favorite Features

WHEN BACKING, THE MIRRORS READJUST AND AN ALARM SOUNDS WHEN THE CAR IS APPROCHING AN OBJECT.

Suggested Improvements

A FOOT REST FOR YOUR LEFT FOOT WOULD BE NICE AS WELL AS TIE-DOWN RINGS IN THE BACK WHEN THE SEATS ARE FOLDED TO ATTACH BONGIE CORDS.

Recently purchased new '03 Expedition XLT..am hugely impressed so far! Very well built truck, thoughtfully designed. Had a '98 Expedition(good truck as well) then traded it for a new Nissan Path- finder..always regreted that. Well, when it came time to trade in the Nissan i went straight to see newly revamped & highly acclaimed Expedition. I don't regret buying another one! Superb truck!

Review

Leaps and bounds above prior Expeditions. Easily matches comfort with Sequoia. Not as powerfiul as it oughta be, but fit, finish, styling and extras are great. Best suspension in this class. Very atractive, fun, safe and easy to drive. Highly recommended!

Favorite Features

The suspension is wonderful, and the sound from the entertainment system is superb.

Suggested Improvements

Need more complete coverage on the onboard navigation. Pocket GPSs have better coverage. Should have been DVD based!

My wife ordered her Expedition completely loaded. The Kids love the DVD player, the Dad loves the A/C seats and GPS-Navigational System and Mom loves all the room. I especially feel safe knowing that she is driving my son and newborn twins around with the ATS and Side Airbags.

Favorite Features

DVD, GPS-Nav System & A/C Seats

Suggested Improvements

Wireless headphones for the Kids.

Review

This truck drives about as good as a sequoia, has a great new suspension, outstanding safety features, a very nice fit and finish and options which make this the best suv in its class period. I thought that the interiors of the tahoe and sequoia were very average. The tahoe drove ok and the sequoia seemed overpriced for the total package you got.

Favorite Features

sliding middle section of second row seat, cargo space, power fold down third row seat, nav system, climate controlled seats.

Suggested Improvements

Review

As close you are going to get to a luxury sedan ride in an SUV. The independant rear suspension really helps the handling and ride along with allowing them to come up with best designed third row seat in any SUV. I owned a Durango previously and once my son grew over 4.5 feet he outgrew "his" 3rd row, which was an innovation at that time. After the first year Ford should put some more thought into the interior features. Have not tested the off road performance...yet.

Favorite Features

Ride and Handling, excellent adult size 3rd row fold flat seat, different interior than F-150, All wheel drive system (4x4), Rack and Pinion steering, Standard features in XLT (although the Eddie Bauer has some cool additions)

Suggested Improvements

get the 5.4 engine,I test drove the 4.6 and it is a dog. No tiedowns, front powerpoint in bad place(left passeger leg),concealed storage in rear floor,no interior switch for Rear tailgate glass, message center(MPG Calculator,Distance to empty, trip time) should be standard.

2003 Ford Expedition Eddie Bauer Rwd 4dr SUV (5.4L 8cyl 4A)

Review

Prior to buying this vehicle we explored all other competition. It wasn't even close. We have a family of five and tow a 23ft boat. This vehicle is well built, roomy, quiet and handles better than any vehicle this size. Many others complain about the mileage, however, by avoiding jack rabbit starts we average 16/17 in mixed driving with the 5.4 engine.

Favorite Features

The heated and cooled seats, 3rd row power seats and the radio/CD system. Very quiet at highway speeds. General comfort.

2003 Ford Expedition XLT Premium Rwd 4dr SUV (4.6L 8cyl 4A)

Review

You have to be a truly brand loyal to overlook some of the flaws inherent in this vehicle. The engine is underpowered and continually goes in and out of overdrive. At highway speeds, there is a noise across the roof like a thin piece of sheelmetal with something heavy rolling across it. The child locks to come on by itself - poor positioning. The dealer offered to replace it for $220. The check engine light also came on for the first time for routine maintenance - $400. The dealer also told me to expect the average routine maintenance to cost around $200.

Suggested Improvements

Stronger engine. Better build quality. More attention to detail during design. Headphone jacks for third row passengers.
