Re: NO START "SOMETIMES" 2001 EXPEDITION [alwaysfords2]
Written by: mountainman_4 on Feb 26, 2010 12:27:49 PM
Haven't seen decent coils for less than $57 a piece, and those are "Standard" brand...OEM are near $100 each. Right now...I don't need coils...I need to figure out how to reset this damn PATS so that "theft" quits flashing, and I can start the junker. The THEFT light is flashing a "61" code (thats a new one to me) and the PATS reset process (15 min key-on, then off, and repeat ... Read More

2001 Expedition - Died in Road - will not start
Written by: mountainman_4 on Feb 25, 2010 8:15:47 PM
Ok...I have a new problem and no one seems to guess this one yet. I have fought this truck for years...so trust me on the fact that the battery, charging system, fusing system are all ok on this. Also, fuel pump relay is ok and set. My Expedition (2001 with 4.6L) just got $80 in gas at the store...I am one mile down the road, and the speedometer and tachometer, simultaneously ... Read More

This is one of the simple Expedition Gremlins to address: Replace the TPS switch. I have a 2001 with 4.6L, and the TPS started failing, which led to sometimes, surges, stuttering, other times just straight up-dying. No codes, no one could guess it...replace the TPS, and all should be well. Keep a small metric 1/4" socket set in the glovebox with a spare TPS...in 20-months, you will need it again. This ... Re: 2001 Expedition 5.4L Timing Chain Noise [jcarroll]
Written by: gregjohnson on Aug 12, 2005 5:47:07 PM
well maintained every 3000 with synthetic oil Uhhh, I think you're low by a few thousand for conventionals (5-7k) and half an order of magnitude for synthetics... (15k). See http://neptune.spacebears.com/cars/stories/interval.html Under "Past Results" you'll see Mobile1 and Amsoil going 14-18,000 miles. Two Ford dealerships are suggesting front timing chain(s?), however both suggest engine swap. This may be because your oil habits indicate you might just buy an engine instead of changing ... 2001 Expedition 5.4L Timing Chain Noise
Written by: jcarroll on Jul 30, 2005 9:04:30 AM
Could really use some help from the group with this one. 5.4L engine with P&I heads, 110K miles but well maintained every 3000 with synthetic oil. Loud rattle from the front of the engine. Two Ford dealerships are suggesting front timing chain(s?), however both suggest engine swap. It seems both shops have limited experience doing the chain repair. Said this problem is pretty rare. Has anyone else seen this problem with ... Read More

as the 2005 EB-KR I just bought is pretty much the same as the 04 from what Ive been told, I can personally state that the engine noise on my 05 seems a bit loud. Frankly it even sounds a tad louder than my 05 F-150 if thats possible. Of course Im still trying to figure out why my $30k F-150 Lariat 2x4 has power seats for driver AND passenger and ... Read More

I bought a ford Expedition 1999 privately - I sincerely regret buy it big tine! It has a constant vibration which I feel thru the steering column and through out the vehicle. It vibrates while standing still or driving. The vibration is exactly the same in any condition. My hands are vibrating after doing a long trip! If this had a small connector - it could be a sex toy! 2003 "clank" in front end
Written by: sloparo on Mar 1, 2005 11:53:38 AM
My 2001 Ford Expedition had a "clank" in the front end as well. We took it into the dealer just before the warranty ran out and were told it was a loose shock. The noise never really went away and, upon returning to dealership, we were told that it was the ball joints and given a repair estimate for over $800.00. I believe that it was the ball joints all along ... Read More

strange electrical problems

I own a 2001 Ford Expedition. Recently the heater fan would continue to run after I turned the vehicle off - the only way to stop it was to turn the heater control to off. This happened with both back and front heaters. I also noticed when I turned the vehicle off, removed the key, and opened the door the chime would continue as though I had left the lights on. ... Removing Original Ford Oil Filter
Written by: fx4 on Jan 21, 2005 9:46:30 AM
It worked out that we have had several new Fords the last few years (due to wife's accident, etc.) I have found that it is nearly impossible to remove the oil filter on 4.6 and 5.4 engines at home. (I usually pick up the excellent 5W-20 synthetic blend Motorcraft oil at Wal-Mart and change my own and recycle the used). When I was ready to change the first time on my ... Read More

"Ford gets a fortune for their parts" Well, sometimes, it seems like it, but compared to what you'll pay for comparable parts for an import - it's not necessarily always the case. A couple of my recent examples: Power steering hose for Lexus: $260 Power steering hose for Lincoln: $62 Rear brake caliper for Infiniti: $230 Rear brake caliper for Lincoln: $65

Hi Calexp, When testing used Expeditions, I suggest you check two often overlooked areas, the suspension and major lube records. Around 70k miles, the air suspensions on the 98s(even earlier on some newer models) start to go, i.e. loud compressors, leaking bags. Ford gets a fortune for their parts, but there are super aftermarket perfect replacements for a fraction of the price(Arnottindustries.com) About the same mileage, rigs whose owners have neglected ... Hello, I own a 2001 EB Expedition 4x2, had 35 miles when I rolled it off the lot in 01 and now is in the 56K range. Around 32K, I started to pick up a low vibration coming through the chassis. Tires were replaced as part of a recall, calmed the vibration down a little, but it has been persistant. Dealer claims "all is well", did the brakes 4K ago, took ... Read More

flashing 4x4 light
Written by: mcdcjclc on Oct 5, 2004 1:03:49 PM
We own a 2001 Ford Expedition. For the last month the 4x4 light is flashing on the dashboard we have checked fuses, the 4x4 system and everything checks out okay, but it continues to flash. Does any one have any ideas of how to get it off?
