Still Going Strong!
Vehicle
1998 Ford Expedition 4 Dr XLT 4WD Utility
Review
Our Ford Expedition 1998 is still going strong with over 191,000 miles. We have taken it on many family road trip and in over ten years we have had few problems with it. We do regular oil changes and check ups but not through the dealer. We used a service station with a guy we trusted to do all repairs. Our interior is really starting to show its age but the exterior looks great with little rust. I would recommend anyone buying this truck especially one that doesn't have lots of miles on it. The only problem I had was a transmission station missing a crack in the drive shaft transmission collar due to the 1998 Expedition has the two piece not integral piece in the newer models. Mary
Favorite Features
We loved the four wheel drive and the flexibility to pop out the seat and haul stuff from shopping. We moved over 20,000 pounds on a local move to our new residence. We loved the trailer hitch and hauled our other vehicle across country. This saved us from having to pay to move the other vehicle.
Suggested Improvements
If I had it to do over I would have purchased a different color than white with tan interior. The white really show the dirt and the interior is filthy with pets and children. Other than that I love it.

I bought our Expedition used in 03 with 70,000 miles. It has been a fantastic vehicle for us. The versatility of taking eight people or hauling things has been great. It has just the 4.6 engine and I have put it though the mill. We haul a 5,500 lbs camper around each summer and I have a piano service business and move pianos all over the midwest in a 3,000 lbs enclosed trailer. This old girl now has 190,000 miles with no major breakdowns. It was our main family vehicle for 5 years and we couldn't have been happier with it.
Favorite Features
Reliable, comfortable ride, versatility, looks great, the rear AC was awesome, turning radius. I always got about 17 mpg (about 9-10 with the trailers) but I wouldn't be driving a truck if I was concerned about gas mileage. 17 was pretty good.
Suggested Improvements
Child locks always turned on by themselves. Sometimes transmission wouldn't downshift when towing uphill. CD Changer quit working.

I could not be more thrilled with this vehicle. I bought it a year ago and it has never failed me yet. the interior room is amazing, and the luxury suspension provides a perfect ride. The 5.4L V-8 engine is extremely powerful, making the vehicle surprisingly fast. If you throw your foot into it, be prepared to be thrown back into your seat. I tend to drive it rather rough, but it never fails me when i need it. haven't had the chance to tow anything with it yet, but I'm confident it could handle most anything. The Shifting is also exceptionally smooth. The gas mileage is poor (average 12MPG) but keep in mind that this isn't meant to be an economy vehicle. My only regret is not getting the 4WD
Favorite Features
The interior is amazing. I have tons of room to haul my friends around, and no one complains about sitting in the back because of the ample leg room. The sound system is also great. (I have the Mach Stereo System)
Suggested Improvements
Most of it has already been fixed in later models, but my least favorite part is the rear end of the vehicle. It is very flat and rather ugly (in my opinion) however, the remainder of the SUV is beautiful. Overall a magnificent machine.
As dependable as the come.

I bought my Expedition in 2003, when I had six kids at home, pulling an animal trailer, living in North East. It had 73,000 miles. Now, 4 kids in college, still have trailer, now has 176,000 miles. Safe, secure, dependable. Starting to rust out from underneath, but keep maintaining 'cause I think it will last until 200,000. Safe? I rolled it in 2005 when a Jeep ran a stop sign. 4 kids and I crawled out sunroof. No one at all hurt. Teens drive it slower than they would a small car, and respect the power more. People still comment on what a sharp looking truck it is. Looks as good as the day I got it. I love my truck.
Favorite Features
Pulls trailer easily, and plenty of room for people and stuff.
Suggested Improvements
Heated seats (has every other bell and whistle!) and have back seat fold into floor, rather than have to take out and store.

We bought this vehicle (new) to replace a 91 Chevy Suburban (which started falling apart after 65K miles). Its primary mission was to pull a 4000# boat and haul kids and hockey gear. It has been a great vehicle. It has been an everyday driver for my wife and she likes the automatic all wheel and four wheel drive features in the winter. I love it when I have 2 adults, 5 big teenage boys on board, full fuel, bags and pulling a boat easily at 70mph. Of course I don't look at the fuel computer because it is really depressing. But it gets the job done easly.
Favorite Features
Supprisingly this vehicle handles very well for a big SUV. Great suspension. Fit and finish, handling, pulling capability and comfort all are good. All creature comforts are ergonomically correct and the Bose sound system is fantasic. The engine transmission is smooth and the auto fwd works
Suggested Improvements
Love for this to be a hybrid that could get 30+ MPG yet still pull. The 5.4 engine is strong and torquey but it sucks gas at 12mpg city and 16 highway. Problems to date have been an AC switch, windshield washer and rear wiper controls. Make the brakes bigger.
