try this: There is water in your relay box just above and left of the steering column. It comes from the leaking windshield. Look up my photo series and fix on the ford truck enthusiasts web site under electrical insanity. Oh wait ... I found it: http://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/443324-electrical-insanity.html
I'm posting this info so that hopefully I can help someone who is looking for an alternative to the expensive coil conversion kits for the air ride suspension in their Ford Expedition. I did a coil conversion on my truck for $79 and a few hours of time. I have a 1999 Ford Expedtion XLT 4WD. The least expensive coil conversion kit for rear coils was $220 from Strutmasters on E-bay. ... Read More

I know this post is old- but I just dealt with this on my own 1997 Expedition. Your starter relay is mounted on the firewall right next to the battery. If you follow the red wires from the battery, they go right to it. Remove the small boot on the starter relay- this is the line from your ignition switch. Put 12v to the small post. If your starter runs- you've ... Read More
You can by-pass the ignition switch by jumping the starter relay. I have a 1997 Expedition, and the starter relay is just to the right of the battery, mounted on the firewall. There are some large red wires bolted on with ring connectors, and a push-on connector. The push-on is the line from your ignition switch. If you remove that and jump 12v from your pos. battery terminal to that post, ... Read More
First I want to start out by saying that Ford is a car that I will never buy ever again. I purchased my car with 70k miles on it. The first problem was the brakes that had to be replaced two months after purchase. Come to find out the brakes where forced on and they where on backwards. I did not purchase my car at a buy here pay here place. ... Read More
I own a 1997 Expedition that had the #3 cylinder blowout. Ford has an unadmitted problem with the 4.6 and 5.4 liter Triton V8s. 1997 to 2000 are the early model heads that tend to show the problem at higher mileage. The 2001 to 2003 models are the "romeo" heads and have the problem over a wide range of mileage (as early as 40K miles). After 2003 I believe Ford used ... Read More
I am trying to find out if a Ford Bronco 3rd row seat (looks to fit a 1995-2000) would work in a 1997 Ford Exp XLT We have been searching for a cheap 3rd row seat for our 1997 Ford Expedition XLT, because we have 5 kids to haul around. We noted that our local craigslist has a free Ford Bronco 3rd row seat. When comparing the seat to an actual ... Read More

My 1997 Expedition is doing the same thing. The battery light was coming on when you accelerated and turned off when you weren't on the gas. Now it's on mostly all the time. I just replaced the battery a couple months ago. The only thing I can trace the problem to is the truck was broken into a couple of weeks ago and the entire ignition was broken off and had ... If you really like it and you need some feature not available on the Sequioa (like the flat folding seat and more usable third row seat), then the Expedition is probably worth it in that situation. If you are buying only because it was cheaper and you really wanted the Sequoia all along, then 8 years of sacrificing would be hard to handle. If I were to get one, I would ... Read More
Hi to all, I haven't posted for a while and I don't know if anyone has brought up this subject. I have filed a Lemon Law claim against Ford for the failure of my driver's power seats. This seat motor has broken/replaced five times in 3 months! The dealer can't fix it, they just order another seat. They say production problems, but Ford says not. It started at 50 miles, and ... That data is incorrect, the 1997-1998 ford expedition was at 215HP and not at 220. The 1999 was at 240. The 2000 was at 215. The 2001 was at 215. The 2003 was at 232. Iam not sure about the 2003 because I had to get its info from edmunds. Hope that helps.
always loved Fords. My first car was a jeep but after that I switched to ford. Here is a rundown... 1. 1996 Thunderbird 3.8 V6-sold with 40k miles when I found out that it was to be redesigned. never had a problem. 2. 1996 Mustang GT 4.6 V8-sold with 79k miles with no problems for my need for a pickup 3. 1998 F150 4.2 V6- 40k miles, currently running with no ... Well, you will enjoy an Expedition much more then a Jeep. Last auto show I went and sat in a brand new Jeep and I have to say that the seats are horrible. The Expedition seats are much better. jjmd1 I installed a set of 98 Expedition fog lights on my 1998 XLT. I bought them from www.usautoparts.com for $129.US. The light installation is easy enough as the lamp harnessed are right there at the inside of the bumper. However, Ford is pretty clever- The headlight/fog module does not have a necessary contact on it ,required to energize the fog lights. Therefore you will have to replace that light module- ...
