I love my Excursion Diesel! I use it extensively in my business, and also have four children, so nothing else compares. Always used to drive Suburbans, but had problems with lights, electric windows, etc. - little annoying problems, never a problem with my Excursion, and have put over 70K miles on it so far. The only two things that are problems, especially if you pull a lot of trailers, is the turning radius, which I believe has improved in the '05 model and the horsepower. It does not keep up at all with my '03 F350, but I will gladly give up the comfort of those two items, for the inside comfort and room! Would strongly recommend the diesel versus the gas model for gas purposes.

We bought the 2001 Excursion with the 7.3L PSD Diesel engine in Sept. 2000 and over the years have congratulated ourselves often for this lucky purchase. The Excursion is comfortable and fun to drive, even with the occasional boat in tow. The average fuel consumption over the last 20,000 miles amounts to an excellent 19.8 mpg (the electronic counter cheats with 22.6 mpg!). Besides regular maintenance, we had $0 (zero) expenses on repairs in more than 4 years! Our other car is a Suburban, not a bad car at all, very good seats, but too many expensive repairs. We will keep our Excursion a long time.

I bought my excursion new and have
loved it. I had 2 suburbans before and
liked them also. But really wanted the
diesel engine. We have the 7.3 in our
F-350 crewcab and loved the power and
mileage. The kids love the space and
the reclining 2nd seat and the
powerpoints and rear stereo control. I
thought it had too much backend sway,
so we added a leaf or two to the
suspension in the back and one in the
front & larger tires. Now it handles
great. Ford should have stiffened the
rear suspension to handle the load it
is meant to carry. Went to Yellowstone
a month after we had it and got 17-19
mpg with it, and that was a lot of
mountain driving.

I absolutely love it. Hauls my horses
around no problem and provides room for
everyone with plenty of comfort. My X
has the diesel engine with a 44 gallon
tank and on a long road trip you can go
forever without having to stop. Even
around town it gets great mileage, only
need to fill up once a month. The only
thing is I wish they still made them.
Would recommend an X to anyone.

For long distance travel, can't be
beat. Have gotten as high as 17.8 mpg
with V-10 (nothing over 65mph!) and
over 700 miles per tankfull. Dealer
has been better than excellent. No
major problems.

I absolutely loved the truck. Parking
was a bit difficult, but the capacity,
and convenience made this the absolute
king. Anywhere, any time taking
anything. Decided to trade (when I had
the flu) to 'save fuel' among other
things. I have a large family, my boys
and I hunt, fish, camp, and generally
haul a fair amount of stuff. In an
instance of insanity I traded for an
Escape, and have regretted that
decision every day since. If Ford does
discontinue this vehicle due to
pressure from the environmentalists,
they will disenfranchise many.

At 45k miles, I've already had to
replace tires (primarily due extreme
feathering on front left tire...or
front suspension/steering/alignment
problems from the factory?) and brake
pads. Pulls hard right after brake
replacement. About 50% of the time
electric door locks don't respond to
the keyless entry pad, clicker or door
control. Misc. interior plastic
coverings falling off. Finally, 10.7
mpg is frustrating, especially with
California gas prices.

Bought the 2WD model because all my
driving is highway, oftentimes towing
a 7'x14' enclosed trailer, which it
handles in an excellent manner.
The Excursion is the safest, most
comfortable vehicle I have ever driven.
My mileage averages 14-17 mpg when not
towing and about half of that when
towing.

This vehicle has been a joy to
date. Its used for commute as well as
towing(8900lb)trailer.Previous vehicle
was a 99 f/250 crew which was also
great.Chose this due to passenger room
and parkway driving.This vehicle has
an unfair Blackeye image which I am
sure affects sales. This works like a
truck and is plenty comfortable.I get
a respectable 13-14 mpg combo driving
(9.5 avg w/trailer)not bad for a
7000lb v10.

This is by far the biggest thing I've
ever driven,I find it very easy to
handle and it rides pretty smoothe.(the
bigger bumps in the road are a little
tough),but basically it is a nice ride.
I never wanted a vehicle this big,but
now that I have it,all I can say is I
Love It !!!!
