Summary
What Edmunds.com says
Too much truck for too many people. Buy a Suburban if you need a nine-passenger SUV that can tow heavy stuff.
Pros
Epic interior space, powerful engine line-up and a long list of standard equipment.
Cons
Its HUGE, which means poor gas mileage and difficult to maneuver within city limits.
What's New for 2000
The Excursion is an entirely new SUV based on Ford's F-250 Super Duty truck platform. It is the largest vehicle of its type, outgunning even the Chevy Suburban in terms of overall size and interior space.

My X just went over 100 Grand and is still going strong! We,ve been all over the US, East Coast, West Coast, Both Disneys, Etc. The Best Truck I've ever owned. Power, Big and Dependable. After 9 years and five adopted kids, I plan to drive her til the axles fall off. Best thing is NOW she's paid for, Yea!
Favorite Features
Rear Heat and air controls, Rear "Theatre" DVD player and stereo controls, Cavernous interior, seating for 8 and still plenty of cargo room. Tows like a dream! Powerful V10, still 15 MPG Highway.
Suggested Improvements
Better Rotors and Brakes. They need to last longer. Only problem I've had.

I bought my 2000 Excursion off the CarMax website out of Dallas Texas without even seeing it in person. I trusted the salesman & he was honest enough to tell me the truth. He said the vehicle was in great shape so I had it shipped to Houston & when I saw it I fell in love with it before I ever drove it. It was BEAUTIFUL!!! It has the towing power to pull my travel trailer without bottoming out the gas gauge and it pulls like it has nothing behind it. Does not sway and handled so much safer than the 2 previously owned Surburans I had. It has a V10 and is great on gas. On the open road I get between 15 and 20 mpg and never less than 12 while towing anything. I now have 125,000 miles.
Favorite Features
I like the computer mileage gadget & the space for my 2 big dogs that we travel with all the time. The Handling ease it has, I feel extremely safe while driving this vehicle
Suggested Improvements
I wish they still made this style. I guess my next vehicle will be a Expedition XL. Small vehicle are ok, but wreck one and you are dead. no thank you! I will stay with my big vehicle.

I purchased this used truck for towing, however, my 2000 XLT only has a 5.4L V8. Edmunds says the base engine is a V10 6.? something. I pulled my new camper of 4100# for 280 miles... refueled 32 gallons. OUCH... but... it pulled it very well. I noticed on the main page for the 2000 Excursion, my 5.4 V8 isn't mentioned as an option in the 4 wheel drive, which mine is. Overall, I'm happy with it. It's a very solid ride.

I am not the type of person that would write reviews online but I thought I share my owning experience. I always wanted the diesel on but this one was more affordable. I love the power, the towing, and comfort this vehicle has provided me with. Was better than I thought. The gas isn't too bad like they all say. I was nervous about the V10 but by far the best I had

Review
One of the best vehicles I have owned. The 6.8 V10 engine is not that good on gas mileage, but could really haul something down the road. It sits very comfortably and is still running strong today with it just going over 325,000 miles.
Favorite Features
4x4 feature, stereo system, interior design.
Suggested Improvements
None. It's perfect! Bring it back on the production line!
