Hello All, I have a 2000 Ford Escort and I appear to have no brake lights, while they do not illuminate when I turn the front lights on, also the dash board lights do not work. However the head lights, radio, cigarette lighter still okay. Strange in that I replaced a blown fuse (dash) yesterday and as soon as I turned key back on it blew right away. I appear to have a ... did you ever get a resolution to the problem? My sons 2000 with 101k miles is doing the same thing. the latest dealer fix was an egr solenoid and a replacement vacuum hose. they have replaced maf, fuel pump, coil, plugs, pcv, air filter. same code keeps coming up. any information is appreciated. thanks.
Had da same prob. with my 2000 zx2, there is a vacuum line with a breather on da top right hand side of your valve cover, u can probably get a bigger breather, i have an aftermarket intake with 1 vacuum line so i put a small air filter over that vacuum and no more squeek.... U can buy a bigger breather or miniature air filter at autozone, pep boys, advanced, ... Read More
2000 Ford Escort ZX2 Cranks but Won't Start (Solution to the Problem). Here is the answer for anyone who runs into the same problem. We took our ZX2 to a different Firestone in town (Recommended by the AAA tow-truck driver). I explained the problem, detailed all of the work I had already done in attempts to fix it, and one week later, they called us with the solution. They needed to ... Read More
Yeah it did. Change that timing belt!! I THINK these engines are interference engines. I know my 98 is. Change out tension pulleys and what ever else needs to be done at one time. The main part labor would already be paid to get down to the belt. If that timing belt breaks the engine will probably be junk after that.
Hey cool. Did the spark plug wires do the trick? Firestone mentioned that we should look into a new timing belt since we're now over 100k, so I expect we'll replace that soon, but for now, I've just gotta get it started.
The same thing happened to my 98. The only other thing that was added to my list of stuff was spark plug wires. My wires were still shorting out, so we replaced them. We have later had to redo the timing belt.
Well, I just had to replace the timing belt in my '98. I could tell it was out though because when I tried to turn it over, it wound too fast. Also I had a small issue with the fuel sensor saying it was out of range, but my "service engine soon" light came on so if that is on have your mechanic hook it up to a computer. If it ... Read More
Who can help me get my 2000 Ford Escort ZX2 started? It'll crank, but the engine won't catch. I've got fuel in the tank. Fuel cutoff switch is not the problem. I've got the battery (brand new) hooked up to a trickle charger to keep it up to snuff. I've installed a new ignition coil, a new valve cover gasket, cleaned out all the oil in and around the spark plugs, ... Read More
I bought my 2000 ZX2 brand new in November of 1999. I baby my car and have kept it well maintained and serviced. I have less than 50,000 miles on it and was pretty happy with my car. Happy until last week when my “check engine soon” light went on and I started to notice a delay when shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear (I have an automatic). Turns out I ... Read More
2000 Ford Escort ZX2...after changing the factory radio with a Sony Xplod CD Radio (which works), now the airbag light is flashing. Checked for loose wiring or connections, no luck. Any ideas? I have seen some posts on disconnecting battery cable for 30 min and another on getting dealer to reset for you, but wanted to see if anyone else had any ideas. Thanks.
And now its even older....but I will post here to. Got a Escort with 125K Miles on it last fall from the Junkyard for $600 and have put about $2000 into it. I didnt reallly plan on spending that much but I have gotten to really like this car and the fuel economy makes up for it - I could have spent a lot less but new struts were neeeded as ... Read More
Could everything go bad at once on a car? I bought a escort zx2 new in 2001 and 2 weeks ago it started acting like it didn't want to go and started cutting itself off every time I had to stop that was really aggravating. Then it wouldn't get over 40mph. I took it to one person and he couldn't find what was wrong so I took it to ford's and ... Read More

I need to get my parts number of a "wide open throttle cutoff" for my 2000 ford escort zx2. Any idea where this part is and/or what it looks like?
I have a 2000 ZX2, with manual transmission. Today it is in the shop for the 6th time for transmission-related problems, with only 117k miles on it. Just got quoted a repair bill in excess of $1300 to replace the entire clutch assembly. This in spite of an entirely rebuilt transmission going in just before 80k miles when Ford Motor Co. finally owned up to my powertrain warranty and "fixed" the ... Read More
Robert & Maurice I, too, had the tranny diagnosis for this problem. I'm so glad I came here before having the "repair" done! Yes, this filter fixed my '99, and it hasn't run this well in a long time. My local parts store had a hard time finding the part #, so here's the Motorcraft part number for others who might need this fix: FA-1661 F8CZ-6A768-AB (Breather Filter). Thanks, guys, for ... guys shopping for ZX2s: I'd advice spending a few dollars to get a vehicle history report. Since ZX2s are usually driven by younger males (and females too) who like to go fast, checking for accidents and such makes sense. If you use traderonline.com to check for Escorts in your zip code area, chances are you will find the ZX2 you are looking at. There's a button that allows you to purchase ... Read More
Can anyone tell me if the 2000 Ford Escort ZX2 exists?!?!
After wading through hundreds & hundreds of posts about the ZX2.... I gave up and bought one yesterday! Its a red S/R that begged me to buy it. I drove a 2000 & a 2001 Nissan SE with the 145 h/power engine (both auto & manual) but no rebates and very little markdown from the dealers! Also tried the Mazda Protege ES... and it was ok... nothing like the shifter in ... Read More
freddyk: I have a close family member that works for DELPHI. They supply a lot of stuff for Ford. he told me they have NO "long lead" orders for parts for the ZX2 or Escort sedan for that matter. Since most of the mfgs all use the "just in time" supply/inventory system this does not bode well for our beloved ZX's. Ford is mum (at the dealer level anyway) about 2001 ... Read More

a 1962 Rambler station wagon with the flat-6 and pushbutton automatic transmission, and a 1982 Nissan Sentra wagon. I now own a 1997 Escort 4 door LX. I've driven earlier Escorts (primarily from a car rental place in cities on business), and I've got to say that I thought they were rather asthmatic cars. In many instances the car couldn't even get out of it's own way. When I was considering ... Read More
