1994 Escort LX: Last night I returned home and the car ran fine. I went to crank it 20 mins later to run to the store. I put the key in and turned it to the first "Click" as I always do, the panel lights came on, radio, seat belt ingaged, etc. Then I turned to crank it and nothing...It felt like there were no tumblers there, just empty. I then ... Read More

I have a 1994 Ford Escort LX with a weird problem. My car wouldn’t start at one point, and then only after excessive crank time did it actually start and then no problem for a week, then it did it again and it was once again fine for a week, then it did it again and I haven’t been able to start it since, now there is no spark, no fuel ... Ford Escort Engine Problems

  • Re: 1994 Ford Escort fouled plug [gep2]

Please disregard the message I'm replying to... the reason for the confusion was because the parts store gave me the wrong coil, hence it (obviously) didn't look like anything I could see on the car...!! (They gave me the wrong plugs, too...!) Anyhow, we managed to get the RIGHT coil, (how amazing, the RIGHT one is VERY obviously visible!!) and the right plugs, and now everything is running fine again...!!!

1.9l engine... am told the #1 plug is fuel-fouled, Firestone claimed the fouling was caused by a bad coil (so why no problems with OTHER plugs?) Anyhow, we got a new replacement coil and new plugs but don't even see the coil on the car...!! where is it? Is this something we need to have the shop replace, due to accessibility or something? And what are even the odds that it ... Read More

We bought our Escort new. It has been a wonderful little car. It is a 5-speed and unlike the automatic seems to have a little more "pep." It has 75,000 miles. Last week, on two occasions after driving about 10 miles, it stalled out, but we were able to restart it. Since we are moving next month and will be traveling about 850 miles, we took it into the shop for ... Read More

THen same thing on highway, was hitting preset button on radio and the car staleld out going 70 mph on highway. Won't start now, but have all the electrical features. Dashboard lights say "Check ... On the way in to work this morning while stuck in traffic I think I saw a real ZX2 S/R. It was yellow had rear disc brakes, I think different seats (I could only see the head rest), what looked like larger wheels, and a red "s/r" below the left rear tail light. Unfortunatly when I spotted it, traffic picked up and I had to take my exit. Could this have ... Read More

I have shifted from considering a 1994 Subaru Legacy to searching for a 1995-1997 Ford Escort. I wasn't impressed with the Legacy after driving a VW Passat. Since I can't afford the Passat, I decided to go for the efficient Escort. However, I am worried about safety in a lighter, smaller wagon. Does anyone have any recent information on how the newer Escorts hold up in crashes? Thanks
