in 2009 my inlaws bought us a 2001 ford escape with 82,000 miles on it, from finish line ford in peoria IL. the very next day it started having rough idle problems to the point that it would some times die at a stop, the idle problem would only last for the first few minutes of driving. this problem was 20 times worse in the winter, so i looked into it ... Reading all of these posts, I connect with the "misfire" thing and possibly some type of electrical problem. So here's what's happened and what I've had done to date: Beginning December 2009, cruising on a highway, "Check engine lamp" plus " Service emissions system" warning appeared, and oddly enough, the red "Theft" lamp, along with the slightest hesitation. All lamps and warnings corrected themselves within seconds, then all seemed OK. A ... Read More

I just purchased 2009 Ford Escape XLT and have 5 days to keep or return. I already have a problem with the key not going into the ignition hole. It's like you have the wrong key. The lease is up for my 2009 Ford Escape and I am planning to purchase it in a few days. Hi neneeman. A lease rate of .00324 is high compared to the special lease rates that Ford Credit is offering on a number of other Ford division vehicles, however it is equivalent to an interest rate of around only 7.8%. That's about what I would expect the rate to be on an unsupported lease right now. I don't think that the 42% residual value is that unrealistic either. These numbers aren't ... Read More
We just losst our transmission (2009 Escape) at 27,000 mi., third problem. First was a major repair to transmission at 11,000, a recall and now ours is sitting in CO waiting for someone to look at it as we were driving to the West coast. We will trade it in when we get home!
i used the woolite pet oxygen cleaner on the 2 yr old stains on the back seat. took a couple applications until i could see a difference. all the tsains are gone w/the exception of a french fry grease stain (and that one doesn't looks as bad). my front seats were replaced in 2009 w/the "new" material which seems to be the same as the old material. got some white ringed ... The car is not a lemon, but it is such a pain in the butt when you try dealing with a ford dealership or ford directly and the answer is "thats the way it is". its like they dont give a damn about the annoying noise, and it has been ongoing since 2009. Could they figure it out, I think they could but they don't care.
Please how can you say that a tranny going out at 70,000 miles isn't bad. If you have had so many good ones, your LUCKY. I have had 21 cars (all makes) and not one had trans. problems. My vehicle has already been evaluated by a Ford Dealer, and I've been advised that this is expected behaviour. No correction was offered. Hi Alexski. Ford extended its December incentives, and in turn its December lease program, through January 13th. It just published its new January program a couple of days ago. I was somewhat concerned when Ford went to rear drum brakes on the 2008 Escapes. I had four wheel disc brakes on our 07, however after test driving the 2009 V6 with rear drums we purchased the vehicle. The brakes are very good--smooth, nice pedal pressure and the stopping distances seem every bit as good as our 07, if not better.
According to Edmunds, the braking distance of Escape is quite poor compared to its rivals. Any experience and comments? This is one main reason stops me from buying it so far. Thanks.

I was talking to a local Ford salesman the other day and he seems to think that the 2009 Escape is going to be on the lots by the end of July or first week of August, but they will be early. I don’t know about the rest of the country, but in Tacoma, WA most of the dealers seem to have a fair amount of 2008’s still on inventory.
Recently I saw a review of the 2009 Escape, can't remember the site, and the writer stated that there was only the D and L position, just like the Edge. Why does Ford continue to do this?
THis car will. be worth the wait. THere will be a new 4 cylinder engine and more HP from the 3.0L v6. THere will be more NVH insulation. There will be upgrades to the rear brake system. The biggest drums in its class. Sync will be available along with Ford's next gen nav with sirius travel link. Mark
Hi, I plan to order a 2009 escape soon. I currently drive a 2006 xlt awd escape. I've read that the new 2.5 4 cyl is much improved, close to the current v6 in performance. Any thoughts on this?
It did because AdvanceTrac RSC is now standard on all Escapes and that involved an upgraded braking system. It's still front discs and rear drums for the gas versions but braking is said to be improved. Read the second page of C&D's first drive of the '09 I4, V6 and hybrid Escapes. Just finished reading the review. Ford has added some good items--stability control, traction control and extra air bags, but why, why for the sake of a few dollars--the backwards step to rear drum brakes, without the option of discs.
