Well I hope so.... My 2005 Ford Escape is doing the same thing right at 45 mph. I had a Honda Civic were I actually replaced the tranny twice and got rid of it to escape other issues. I just got this car and I can't deal with this same issue again. Please tell me something. I need to know because this vibrating is making me nervous. Do you think a ... Read More
Check carcomplaints.com and look up electrical issues with 2005 Ford Escape. There are hundreds of 2005 Escape owners with the same issues. I complained to Ford, the FTC and have heard nothing. Ford said sorry sucks but not our problem. $5,000 later I have nothing to show for it. Replaced computer, radio, coils, spark plugs etc. People need to start complaining so we can do something about this!
Wow, this makes me sick. I am also a 2005 Ford Escape owner. I have replaced coils, the computer, etc etc etc. Today driving home from work my Theft light came on and dang near stopped my car in its tracks. It doesnt end. What I would like to know is at what point Ford does something about all of this!
I have a 2005 ford escape, I've been having problems with my a/c. when i turn it on I get a real strong scent of anti-freeze. I was informed that the problem was due to a heater core malfunction... my question is where do i locate this heater core and how do i get it out?
Reading all of these posts, I connect with the "misfire" thing and possibly some type of electrical problem. So here's what's happened and what I've had done to date: Beginning December 2009, cruising on a highway, "Check engine lamp" plus " Service emissions system" warning appeared, and oddly enough, the red "Theft" lamp, along with the slightest hesitation. All lamps and warnings corrected themselves within seconds, then all seemed OK. A ... Read More
I finally took a look at a 2004 vs a 2005 fuse map in the different years owners manuals and found that there are seveal differences between them. Every fuse I have pulled and looked at and tested has been ... Read More

Hi, Have a 2005 Escape XLT. The plastic at the rear fly windows, around the front mirrors and the plastic mirrors all seem to be curling/melting. Door handles are developing some type of cancer as well. Anyone have this issue? Anyone know where I can find aftermarket replacements? Very poor quality. Ford contact and they say SORRY. Thanks for any help
Hey Guys, Just joined. I am have the same type of problem. My Ford Escape (2005) starts to vibrate when I reach a speed about 15 mph and stop at about 18. It will keep vibrating while I am at those speeds. The vibration seems to be coming from the front drivers side. What is the problem and what is the fix? Thanks a lot for any help.
Hey guys, new to the forum. I recently bought a 2005 ford escape. 4wd, 82,000 miles. Its has a slite vibration in drive and reverse at idle, like pulled up to a stop. Has anyone else had problems with this and if so, what was the fix? tranny fluid looks clean, at level, and doesn't smell burnt. Any help is greatly appriciated!
Sure, what the heck: First, this doesn't have anything to with "stalling and hard to start". Has to do with what I, and hundreds of other people have said since 2007--backed up by Ford's very own TSB and DTC publications. It's a "hesitation accompanied by a Theft light...mostly at speed, but sometimes while simply pulling out of a parking space. And, second, this has nothing to do--at least in my case ... Read More
My 2004 Escape did the exact same thing this week. Front passenger brake line blew. Hi, I wouldn't purchase a Ford Escape if it was the only way to reach the promised land after the Tribulation. I come from a family of Ford Fanatics. My first "car" was a Ford F-150 Lariat that my Daddy bought me for graduation. Mustangs, Escorts, Explorers and Expeditions were what my family drove. Here is my $0.02 on the rotation topic. If you have a rear-wheel drive vehicle, rotation may not make a big difference in extending tire life. Since the rear wheels have the traction, the rear tires will take their share of wear from providing traction to move the vehicle forward and back. The front wheels provide the traction to change direction of the vehicle, hence, the front tires will take their ... Read More
The experts at TireRack don't agree with you. I don't enjoy rotating them either, and I've heard the urban legend claim (and would like to believe it since I don't enjoy car maintenance), but my personal experience on my minivan is that the fronts would wear out a lot faster than the rears if I didn't rotate them. And I prefer to buy tires in sets instead of pairs. Tread wear ... Read More
Yes balancing and wheel alignment is required for a smooth ride it has nothing to do with tire life in today's tires. Rotation is an urban myth that won't go away.
Interesting re:non-rotation of tires. So are all the shops recommending / doing rotation just out go grab $$? (wouldn't surprise me). Balancing is a different story tho I'd think.
There is no need to rotate your tires as this might cause drive ability problems. There are no studies or any proof that tire rotation extends tire life The tires will take a set but there is nothing wrong with this. I learned this by having rotated my tires many years ago and having problems I was told that I need new shocks, drive shaft wheel bearings etc.but all that was ... Read More

The hoot when accelerating from a stop. The rear brake noise, sometimes a clicking sound.. There are always some strange noises The rubber on the bottom near the drivers door which has become unattached because I hit it whith my foot when getting out. In my case the "problem" had nothing to do with wheel bearings -- it was totally tire noise. As mentioned, I'd "rotated" tires just before I began noticing the noise. The tires have 70,000+ miles on them and haven't worn totally evenly ... Read More
Thanks, that is what I was suspecting...
Also, since you rotated your tires, the tires themselves may be making the noise trying to adapt to the new position since they may have been worn specifically to the previous position.
I've been told that if you hear a change when turning (while driving), then the problem is likely a wheel bearing. If it gets noisier when turning left (more load on right wheel) then it's the right wheel bearing. If noise turning right, then left wheel bearing. I'll be sure to post final results of my situation.
I'm having same problem with a 2001. Same mileage. I'm watching to see what happens with your car. I notice my noise changes when make turns on high way.
I haven't checked the metal dust shield...will do ASAP - - but I'd think it would make a racket / high-pitched squealing sound if rubbing the rotor. No such sound. The sound I hear is more of a low rumble that's speed dependent. Could be bearing(s) or tires (they're a hard rubber and have always been louder than my other vehicles). I will re-rotate the tires back to their original positions ... Read More
You mentioned replacing your front brake rotors...have you checked if the backing plate (metal dust shield bolted to the steering knuckle that sits behind the rotor) is not rubbing up against the rotors. Sometimes when replacing rotors one may accidentally pull this shield and since it is so flimsy it will bend a little just enough to make it contact the rotor. Try removing the wheels and push back the dust ... Read More

I work for autozone and we still lend the scan(DTC) tool
Autozone USED to lend you the diagnostic tool to pull the DTC (code). However, the laws have changed since April 1st and they are no longer allowed to do this. You will have to buy the diagnostic tool or know of someone that has one and can lend it to you. Good Luck!
I don't know a lot about mechanics, however I do know that some of the auto parts stores (like Auto Zone) have the diagnostic computer reader and will plug it into the auto computer system and tell you what the problem is without charge. That way you can assess the immediate need of the auto. Hope this helps, and hope you get back to work soon.
Our Ford Escape decided to light up the ABS brake light. We are unsure of the problem. Should pulling the wheels and checking the brakes be the first thing we do. I am laid off and do not have acess to a diagnostic tool.

Had them replaced twice in 2 months - problems still happening. Since then, I've had 3 shops look at the brakes and they couldn't find the problem. I would fully expect, as would many other (I hope), that you have more recall issues ... Read More
