My clock was staying on when my car was off. After two weeks on the internet researching, I found that it might be the accessory relay. It is in the fuse box to the right of the fuses, right in the middle. I have a 2004 Ford Escape. I used part Standard V13081 RY612. It cost about $15. It worked.
Drove it last Tuesday. Everything fine. Thursday night horrible beeping noise, it was the radar detector flashing "Low Voltage". And dome light was flashing. Pulled the radar detector. Charged the battery the next day. Started that night. Wouldn't start the next day. Found that the radio was coming on after the car was shut off. It's the original Ford radio. Has a mind of its own. That is what was draining ... Read More
My key off current drain was found to be the GEM module, which is located under the center console. This went on for a number of years until I took it to a service manager who had the same problem and was familiar with it and actually understood what I was talking about. I bought the new ford escape 2013, on dec 30th. I have been babying the pedal to the point I have been sworn at for not hitting the gas at the light. And coasting to turns. I grabbed the emergency break&avoided the collision. Got ... Read More
That's awesome, steve! I sure wish I could get by driving so little that a tank of gas lasted that long. For those asking, yes, we do have a 15 gallon tank. I've been able to exceed the EPA highway number too, but only with a whole lot ... Read More

The ABS module gets all of its signals from the wheel speed sensor which just so happens to be mounted inside the wheel bearing on most all cars these days. That is how the ABS module knows which wheel is slipping or skidding. FYI

Now, I could be wrong, but the wheel bearing shouldn't turn on the ABS light. Usually that is an indicator that the ABS module is failing. I'm very very concerned about the mechanic you are using. First, the alternator would have nothing whatever to do with the misfire in the engine. With your budget of $12k, you have lots of choices in a small SUV not just a Ford Escape. However, if you like the Escape I would go with the 2006 model year. 2005 was the first year that the Escape came out with the "intelligent 4WD system" that is a little different then the old 2004 and earlier model system. First year anything usually tend to have a little more ... Read More

Precisely why I went with a 2004 Escape (back in 2004) instead of the 2005...that and the fact that I got a super killer deal. 2004 and older 4WD Escapes come with a similar system as the 2005 and up models which is FWD biased but will transfer traction to the rear wheels when slipage is detected. Yeah, how come I was not informed about that fact? WASHINGTON -- Ford Motor Co. said Tuesday it was recalling more than 500,000 Ford Escape sport utility vehicles after receiving reports of engine fires linked to corrosion on antilock brake connectors. Ford said the recall involved 444,880 Escapes from the 2001-2004 model years in the United States, and about 75,000 Escapes in Canada, Mexico and Europe. The recall does not affect ... Read More
What is the asking price of each vehicle? Probably asking more for the 2003 Highlander than the 2005 Tribute. We have owned A Ford Escape and 2004 Highlander V6. Both are reliable. I actually enjoy the Escape more. Smoother, better transmission. Of course the Highlander had a few more luxury features.
I have a 2005 Escape that I bought in October of 2004. It has over 47,000 miles so it is not under the warranty at this time. It is currently at the dealership because it will not accelerate properly from a stopped position, which is even worse when the A/C is on. The dealership did the diagnostics and determined it is a transmission problem, however, after being there for 2 weeks ... Read More
Just added my "Hidden Hitch" last weekend and can confirm that what the instructions mean by "access hole" is actually the far aft end of the "U" shaped beam (tube) -- the same beam that the hitch is attaching to. I attached to six holes by threading the empty fish wires (provided) "backwards" through the desired mounting holes back to the beam opening. Then, after placing the rect steel "washers" and ... I just added a hitch (from U-Haul) to my FEH this week. The "access hole" I used was just the end of the frame tube. Here's what worked for me: 1. Fit the hitch up to the frame to identify the 4 holes you will be using. 2. For each hole you will be using - fish a wire through the hole next to that hole, the one closer to the ... Read More
I am trying to install a trailer hitch for a 2004 Ford Escape. The instructions indicate that I should fish the bolt assembly through the access hole in the frame. Does anyone know where the access hole is located? I can't find it anywhere. Do I need to remove the bumper to get to it? Thanks!
I have recently purchased a 2006 Escape XLT and I like everything about it except the seats. I am not a large person (5' 7" and 160 Lbs) but the driver's seat is very uncomfortable. Kind of like sitting in a vise. I traded a 2001 Mustang GT for the Escape and also am driving a 2004 Ford Focus at this time. I've never encountered car seats quite like the seats ... Read More
Question for the host: My husband and I have driven several '05 and '06 XLT's and have absolutely loved the pickup and smooth ride. We decided we wanted to find a 2005 to buy. We recently test drove a 2005 and noted it was slower on the pickup, had to give it more gas to coast along at 40mph, and noted it was noisier (as result of higher rpm's)- a more ... Read More
over the weekend our 2004 Escape with 51,000 miles blew its tranmission on the ride home to Boston from Virginia Beach. with no warning i lost all power and had to pull over on the left side of Rt 95. it is currently in Delaware where the Ford dealership there is charging us $4K to put a new one in. and then i have to fly back down there this weekend ... Car_man, I am in the process of choosing a vehicle. The best test drive I completed was for a used Ford Escape XLT. The vehicle did have some engine noise, so I am interested in a newer Escape. I was told that there is a way to lease pre-owned 2003 & 2004 Escapes. This is actually the first time I have heard a dealer mention this. I am in the 14222 ... Read More
Yes - I saw the TSB - seems it's a common problem with 2005 models built between August and December 2004. The dealership told me it was the electric motor that was overheating the first time. They did everything that the TSB said to do to fix it (replacing the water pump with a new/improved model, some software update and replacing an electrical panel) - but since that was only 3 ... quote myself; "After reading the message below I called Ford and they did confirm that only Dexron-III/Mercon made from natural oils (no synthetics)should be used in the CD4E transmission which is used in all Ford Escapes. Unless you DON'T have a CD4E transmission, read the above. The dipstick and handle were changed in 2003 or 2004 to read "USE MERCON"... Do NOT use Mercon V or synthetic Dexron-III/Mercon. Just regular Dexron-III/Mercon...it's ... Read More
You should get that Mobil 1 synthetic oil out of the CD4E transmission before you do permanent damage to the transmission. Watch what you say about those SAE tests drom. Domestics typically GAIN HP when re-tested while pretty much all Asian engines lost power. Couple of examples for you. I think the Fusion was originally listed as having 210 HP from it's Duratec30 but when re-tested right before it went on sale it came out as 220 HP. Don't try to tell me the Mustang GT is only making 300 HP either. ... Read More
