Something to check if your Escape has poor idle or stalling.
I have a 2004 ford escape XLT 3.0 V6. Last summer it started idleing rough and acting funny. Slowly over time it kept getting worse giving misfire codes, stalling at lights etc. I changed, plugs, wires, both O2 sensors, fuel filter and was getting ready to replace EGR valve when I discovered the actual problem under the hood stareing at me. Fords are very well known for having radio problems, I went through 3 on our 2004 Limited until I said screw this and replaced it with an aftermarket head unit. According to NHTSA, looks like nobody has died. I have owned 7 Escapes, still have 2 06s, with 80,000 miles on them, no brake line problems, in hot and dry Las Vegas. Not saying it hasn't happened at all, but not sure it's universal either. Or maybe the problem has been corrected on newer models. The oldest ones I have had have been 06s.

I have a 2004 escape and I have replaced the brakes at 3 times in the last 15 months. The calipers, rotors, lines, most recently the lines were replaced last month. tonight I was going through Mcdonalds stopped at the first windo no problem. Went to the second window and zero brakes!!! I wonder how many people have died??

When I told my mechanic that this seemed like a rare occurrence he said he has seen it on other Escapes (this shop services a company with a fleet of Escapes). re: 2004 Ford Escape Where is the switch located (on the steering column) for the front windshield washer. I have no power to the front pump so I am assuming that the problem is with the switch connected to the washer arm on the steering column.

I have a 2002 Escape. Battery dies if car sits for 10 days to two weeks. Some evidence that drain is coming from CD/Instrument cluster but no proof. Lights on dash dim. One Ford dealer had no clue, but alternator is working and the battery is onle 4 months old. Seems that the problem is common and no one has a solution!

Alternator issues
I have a 2004 Escape. While driving, everything electrical shut off. It made this wierd clicking noise. The battery was completely dead at this point. Replaced it. GEM stands for General Electrical Module and it controls pretty much all the dash electrical functions. Look it up in kbb.com, nada.com and edmunds.com used car appraiser. If you are within wholesale good condition to wholesale good +1000 or so that is a good deal. What is the asking price of each vehicle? Probably asking more for the 2003 Highlander than the 2005 Tribute. We have owned A Ford Escape and 2004 Highlander V6. Both are reliable. I actually enjoy the Escape more. Smoother, better transmission. Of course the Highlander had a few more luxury features.

I am trying to install a trailer hitch for a 2004 Ford Escape. The instructions indicate that I should fish the bolt assembly through the access hole in the frame. Does anyone know where the access hole is located? I can't find it anywhere. Do I need to remove the bumper to get to it? Thanks!

You should get that Mobil 1 synthetic oil out of the CD4E transmission before you do permanent damage to the transmission. I leased my 2005 Escape XLT 4WD in Oct. 2004, the Dealer replaced the Rear End/Axle Assembly in May 2005. Since then I have a shudder when the transmission is shifting from 3rd to 4th gear.
