    You need to replace all coils when you have the engine disassembled, for cost sake or it will be another cost to uncover the intake manifold again, I recommend that everyone with coil issues replace theirs every 100,000 miles all 6 or 4 or be stranded.     I have never done it myself on my wife's Escape but I have done it in other vehicles. It is fairly easy to replace either the switch or the regualtor. In either case you'll have to remove the interior door trim panel to get to them. Choose your route....     Same problem. When it's over 90 degrees, the Escape stutters and acts like it might stall. Hesitation also occurred at highway speeds.     I'm having the same problems with my Ford Escape. I took it to the dealership and they charged me $1100 to replaces coils and spark plugs. When this didn't fix the problem they told me my Cat Conventers are plugged and the cost to replace will be $1800. What did you end up paying for the repairs? Can anyone offer any input on this?     My dealer reprogrammed the Escape's computer (they didn't give me any further detail). The idle speed has not any problem since then, but hot weather is now passed, so I guess I won't know for sure if it is fixed until it manages to go an entire summer without stranding me. There were a few hot days, so I am hopeful it won't happen again.

    I have a 2002 Escape. Battery dies if car sits for 10 days to two weeks. Some evidence that drain is coming from CD/Instrument cluster but no proof. Lights on dash dim. One Ford dealer had no clue, but alternator is working and the battery is onle 4 months old. Seems that the problem is common and no one has a solution!

    Have you had your brake pads checked? Usually low brake fluid and light on means that the fluid is low because your pads are very worn, thus the piston in the caliper is extended.     the oil light started flickering the other day when i was on a moderately steep grade and standing still in drive. checked oil and added half a quart. this has been the norm after about 2300 miles following an oil change due to a minor leak that appeared after about 80000 miles, don't know from where. light still flickers even though oil level is fine. sensor,pump, wiring.... any ideas?

    Have you checked that the temperature blend mechanism is working properly? It may be stuck on hot therefore blowing warm to hot air when A/C is on. Just a thought!

    Sounds as if you have encountered an incompetent repair shop. If your Escape is a V6 and you did not order the towing package, then you don't have the extra transmission fluid cooler that sits in front of the radiator (near the lower portion of the radiator).     According to www.fleet.ford.com, the 2002 Ford Escape 4x4 with the 6 cylinder gets a trans. fluid change very 150,000 miles! This is what is called a sealed for life trans. I have heard horror stories from people trying to flush the trans at non dealerships as its supposedly not easy to do. Mark.

    I wouldn't reccomend flushing the transaxle. Flushing should really only be done on the cooler lines. Just drain and replace fluid in the transaxle.

    binazone, reformulated gas came out around 1993, long before your 2002 ford escape. so i think you are talking about the recent change from MTBE to ethanol in some areas. FWIW, when i compared RFG1/MTBE to RFG1/Ethanol back in 1993, i got slightly better mpg results with the MTBE type of RFG1. all these tests were with 1992 & 1993 honda civics. but not a 10% difference. however if you are ...     What engine and transmission combination do you have? You say the transmission shudders from 1st to 2nd between 40 and 45 mph. Don't you mean it shifts from 3rd to 4th at that speed range?     I kept calling Customer Relationship Center At 1-800-392-3673. And after talking to three different Ford Reps they sent me a check for $500.00.     My 2002 Escape XLT had 71,000 Miles when the transmission Quit. Ford said the transmission pump quit and burned up the transmission. DONT trust it. This transmission was flushed twice and has never been mistreated. 35 miles after second flush engine light came on and transmission refused to go in gear. No help from FORD yet.

    So sorry to hear, studanny. I would never buy to own ford without extended warranty. Ford has made many poor transmission. :( Mazda transmission is not true Japan, it has been corrupted by Ford. Toyota,Nissan,Subaru,Honda, all true Japan quality, no to worry. Trade in Mexican Ford for true quality Japanese auto. You will be most happy. :)

    No, I had the same problem and it turned out to be the crappy motor mounts on my Tribute. There special order only and run about $360 for the set. See if you can shake the motor slightly while the car is parked. Should make the same noise.

    I have a 2001 Mazda Tribute that I think might have the same front-end problem. Every time I go over a bump I hear a kind of a rattling or ticking, almost like something is a little loose in the undercarriage. It's a really short noise, i.e. you have to listen carefully because it comes immediately after a bump. Could this be the same shocks problem? Any help much appreciated.
