The Edge's 3.5-liter V6 is light on low-end pull, but provides solid mid-range response. Handling is above average for this class, with well-weighted steering and predictable body roll, but the brakes are cause for concern -- stopping distances are very long.
The ride is comfortable and exceptionally quiet. Well-shaped seats and loads of legroom make the Edge a good choice for taller families; no third-row seat is available, though.
Controls are well-organized, though there are too many small, flat buttons that look alike. There's ample cargo room behind the rear seat, but maximum capacity is low for a midsize SUV.
The Edge wears Ford's "futurist" styling cues well and stands apart from most other midsize SUVs. Interior materials quality is average, and in vehicles with a leather interior, there's more vinyl than animal hide in the backseat.
Comfortable
The Edge offers well-cushioned, well-shaped seats in the front and rear, not to mention a relaxing ride. A telescoping steering wheel makes it easy to find a good driving position.
Family Friendly
There's no third-row seat, but with plenty of room in all directions, families of three, four and five will be quite content. The rear seats have a large recline angle.
