2013 Ford C-Max Hybrid SEL 4dr Wagon (2.0L 4cyl gas/electric hybrid CVT)
Researched long and hard, test drove Prius V, Mazda CX-5, and C-Max to replace '03 Highlander (great car by the way).Liked the room behind the second row in the V and CX-5 and the driveability of the CX-5. Liked the mileage (knew it didn't get 47/47/47), acceleration, handling, quietness, and accommodations in the C-Max. I have put
about 1500 miles on the car so far and am getting about 43 mpg overall. Having fun playing the hybrid game! Much of my driving is in town or two lane rural highway. The mileage does suffer if you go over 65 mph. Diesel is probably the way to go if you want great interstate mileage.
The car handles well and has good acceleration. The mpg, while not EPA numbers, is very good. Its a quiet and comfortable car with good passenger accommodations and the visibility from the drivers seat is very good. The electronics, foot operated lift gate, backup monitor, MFT, etc. are all beneficial and kind of fun. You research this car before and after you buy it! There is a service bulletin out for the hatch and it cured the hit or miss problem.
I knew what I was getting and am very satisfied but... more space behind the second seat and a little more width back there would be nice (so a set of golf clubs would fit in without taking out the driver). It would also be nice if Ford or Thule or someone would make bicycle hauling more convenient inside or outside the car. Ford has done great at putting together a hybrid that gets excellent mileage when driven 55-60mph the next step would be 45 mpg at 65-75 mph.
