Vehicle2013 Ford C-Max Hybrid SE 4dr Wagon (2.0L 4cyl gas/electric hybrid CVT)
ReviewDriving a C-Max at Denver's mile high elevation for the past two months and 1720 miles has been a very satisfying experience. CMax has performed very well in the cold (-5F to 25F) and snow delivering a consistent 37.4mpg. As spring temperatures warmed to 50-70F the mileage climbed to 45-50mpg. Driving is a 50/50 city/highway mix. With lowest mpg 29.7mpg in a blizzard and 93.3mpg on a 3 mile downhill drive from shopping. CMAX was our #1 choice over the Prius and Prius V because the Ford proved to be a better mix of mpg, driving capability and interior comfort. This car is simply fun to drive. Took it up Floyd Hill in the fast lane - nuff said. Have enjoyed every minute in this car!
Best FeaturesThe hybrid engine/transmission combo delivers reliable power, acceleration and very good fuel economy. Excellent commuter car has all the moves needed to survive the Denver drive. My wife had no problem learning the nuances of MyFordTouch. Android smartphone connectivity took seconds. Navigation and voice control are easy to use with a little practice. Both front seats are very comfortable with superb visibility. Took four adults to lunch and all were comfortable - 43mpg in gusty winds and 45F. No reliability or quality control issues have surfaced. All genre of music resonate well in the car. Headlights provide excellent night visibility. Drives well in the snow with good grip from tires.
Worst FeaturesSteering wheel stalks could feel a bit more substantial. Front passenger seat could use more position control. Would prefer more color choices for the interior, especially a few brighter ones. To those owners disappointed with MPG please realize that once temperatures drop below 40F all hybrids lose 3-10mpg due to reduced engine efficiencies including C-MAX and all Prius. Snow, rain and wind also take a toll. Once tmperatures warm above 55F, MPG climb rapidly. Believe owners' manual should give more info on these variations. As you can tell I'm not suggesting any substantial improvements.

Thanks so much for your input on driving your C Max in the Mile High City. I live in Kansas, have had my SEL since November, and am loving it. We are coming to Arvada for a wedding in the next couple of months. I wasn't overly worried, but did wonder how the car would perform at high altitudes. I sold Hondas for many years, but picked the C Max over the Prius with no regrets.Report it
