2013 Ford C-Max Hybrid SE 4dr Wagon (2.0L 4cyl gas/electric hybrid CVT)
Don't be put off by the negative reviews.
The C-MAX really does get the advertised mileage. It's a very comfortable ride and fun to drive.
The car has about 4500 miles on it, and I'm getting 52-53 MPG.
The mileage does improve over the first 3000 miles!
At 1000 miles the MPG was 43-44, at 2000 miles it was 46-47, and at 3000 miles it 49-50.
If you follow the recommendations in the manual you should get the advertised 47 MPG:
go gradually on the acceleration and stay around the speed limit.
The key for good MPGs is to maximize travel in EV mode. Heavy acceleration and speeding keeps the hybrid in gas engine mode, and the MPGs drops rapidly:
back off the accelerator to stay in EV mode.
I also own a 3rd gen Prius.
I so I really appreciate the much improved cabin visibility, lower road noise, larger cargo space, and comfort provided by the C-MAX.
The also added power and acceleration when you need it.
As a result. It never feels like it struggles when going up a hill.
To improve your gas mileage use the Engage display mode, and customize by adding the battery display.
Engage mode lets you clear see when you in EV mode versus gas engine mode. You can improve MPG by breaking slowly when stopping.
The regenerative breaking helps to charge the battery without using the gas engine along with coasting at times.
The only complaint I have with the C-MAX is the limitation on EV mode at 62-63 MPH.
I don't mind driving at 62 mph to get better MPG, but on a longer trip, it
would be great if Ford could extend the range of EV mode to the upper 60's or to 70 MPH.
