Zero gas weekly commuting
By peterwx on
2013 Ford C-Max Energi SEL 4dr Wagon (2.0L 4cyl gas/electric hybrid CVT)
I charge at home & at work so the battery easily covers my 15 mile commute each way. I use zero gas for my usual weekly work commute which is really nice. The battery shows 9 miles range left when I arrive at work, and 6 miles range left when I arrive at home. More hills. The breaking regen system is very good. I regen a mile or two in estimated range at each of 2 or 3 stop lights caught on my commute.
So far in longer weekend trips and road trips I average around 38 to 39 mpg after the battery charge is finished with EV mode and normal hybrid mode kicks in. This will likely improve when the weather warms up.
Embedded cellular card. You can see car location, charge status by phone/web
Truly fun to drive. I even call it sporty. Does not feel like a compact car. C-Max Energi sits up just a little lower than smaller SUVs which is nice. Interior is nicer & more space than the Lexus CT200H. The interior is 2 or 3 classes above Prius or Leaf for sure. The trade off of the larger heavier leather quality dashboard and trim is lower MPG when driving in pure hybrid mode.
Bottom line is C-Max has more power and is more responsive & has a nicer luxury quality interior. Those features mean that the car will avg 6 to 8 MPG less than the hybrid competition in pure hybrid mode. If the 7.6 kw battery range covers a chunk of your daily driving, you will see 100 MPG avg or more.
The MyFord Touch system is clunky and slow. It is easy to learn how to work through the slowness. Pause between button pushes etc. Ford already knows this Microsoft hindered system is the worst tech in Ford cars sold today. You can look beyond it after learning how it works. The actual features, USB drive music, handsfree phone system, navigation and climate control are very good and offer lots of options and features for the geek. It's just slow when it comes to using onscreen buttons.
Have not had the car long enough to give more than 3 stars for reliability. But zero issues so far.
