Summary
What Edmunds.com says
A bit behind its Japanese competitors in terms of refinement, but ahead of them in pricing and the fun-to-drive factor.
Pros
Exceptional value, attractive shape, fun to drive.
Cons
Coupe doesn't offer rear-wheel drive, no manual transmission in the ES sedan.
What's New for 2001
The Avenger nameplate has been dropped from the Dodge lineup, replaced by the all-new Stratus coupe. The Stratus sedan continues with a full redesign but retains many of its predecessor's body lines. A new engine debuts along with additional safety features that make the Stratus a family sedan in the truest sense. Last year we marveled at the list of standard options on this moderately priced sedan; this year we're rechecking our numbers again as more features debut for 2001.

BOOOOOOO!!!

2001 Dodge Stratus R/T 2dr Coupe (3.0L 6cyl 5M)
Review
Car is a looker, that is the only upside. Reading other consumer reviews it seems I may have the only crappy dodge stratus. Ok, here we go. Transmission jerks for some mysterious reason, ALOT of electrical issues (interior lights, blinking head lights, faint turning signals, horn loves to go out, fluctuating gas hand, radio and clock resets when I turn the car off then back on), bumper sits too low therefore it oftens hits while going over dips and speed bumps even when speed is low. 3.0 engine sounds good but doesn't accelerate all that well, and parts are expensive. I plan to sell car or salvage parts and get a NON AMERICAN CAR. Sorry USA.
Favorite Features
Exterior design.
Suggested Improvements
Too many to type. I'll be here all night.
Recommended car!

No major repairs required since I've owned it. Purchased w/ about 43K miles. This car has served me an awesome time, again and again. The most problems I have had, had been with the front end (bearings, breaks, turn signals...), but maybe b/c mine is a rebuilt title? All fixed and drives so smooth! Cruises nice around 70mph. Manual trans. is the only way to go! Very fun, especially to watch people look at your car take off scratching their heads???
Favorite Features
-Torque/pull! Passing and taking off is a breeze & fun. -Shifting. Shift at about 3K, and fairly quickly; it will fade without notice into the next gear. -Pwr/Leather seats. Comfy! -Performance/fun to drive! Very fun daily driver. -Exhaust. Awesome stock sound. -Sleeper (rip R/T badges off.. ?? :)
Suggested Improvements
-Rotors warp easily, but are easy/cheap to get resurfaced. -Inside cabin noise annying at times. Just turn on the radio ;) -3 point turn. It's like trying to turn around a truck! -Engine tick on warm up. 3.0 engine is notorious for this! Although it hasn't effected perf. and has never gotten worse.

Bought my car new in '01. No problems. After 8 years finally have had to start spending some cash on it. Repairs here and there, but nothing that's not normal wear and tear
Favorite Features
Sleek lines, the drive is smooth. Beautiful car, a joy to own
Suggested Improvements
Stronger engine for the 4 cyl. Better redesign for cup holders

I bought this car with almost 120,000 miles and it drives pretty decent. I've turned several heads with the cars already stylish exterior, with just a few simple mods. First the cars' door molding was shaved to give it the clean look; then I painted my calipers and after market black headlights. After some modifications regarding appearance, I then bought a intake and exhaust system and now I'm up to about 225 hp. You can definitely feel the power and I especially love the improved 0-60 time.
Favorite Features
The sunroof, and the autostick, is very fun to use (I like the ability to control the car w/o a clutch).
Suggested Improvements
Sometimes the engine doesn't want to live up to the true amount of HP it has, and the acceleration is depleted. A few people said that it may be my spark plugs, but I wonder if its true that the 2.7 L does have engine sludge problems.
Love my Stratus

Okay so I'm 18 and I just graduated high school. I'm a typical teen and I really push my car like all teens do lol. I have the 2001 Dodge Stratus 4 door SE Sedan with the 2.4L V4 and i love it! It was my cousin's car and it's mine now. It was originally a rental car so tons of people have driven it including my cousin and me and let's say we're not the best drivers ha ha. I love my stratus. For a midsize sedan with only a V4 it's a great little car. I love the interior and exterior. I love the aggressive dodge look it has from the front. Also for a V4 it preforms well. Its not bad on gas, its 20 city and 28 highway. It could be better but its okay for me. I love it and i would recommend it to anyone!
Favorite Features
The smooth ride, the roomy interior, the comfy seats, the AWESOME sound system, huge trunk, and large amounts of storage throughout the interior. I come from a whole family of Dodge, Chrysler, and Jeep only owners and none of their cars are bad. I love Dodge. They make excellent cars!
Suggested Improvements
The fuel isn't bad at 20/28 but it could be better. Other than that I don't have any complaints.
