4 cylinder automatic SOHC stratus has a horrible idle problem. I read something about an idle air control valve & carbon build up...& cleaning it out my car should idle normal again. I'm not sure if its more severe than that because my car idles at 500 rpm, & constantly acts like its stuck between gears....help!
I just bought my 99 stratus a few days ago, and it seems the only problem it has is the same problem you are having. Let me know if you find anything out. Would be greatly appreciated!! thanks! -bill
While driving my 2001 Dodge Stratus 2.2 Z series, the engine shut off and will not start. It does turn over but does not start. Help? Paul
Dear hpmctorque, Thank you so much for responding to my post. You cannot imagine how helpful your response is. First, you have provided me with direction, and I don't have to wonder what issue to tackle first. I have decided to purchase two inexpensive tires to replace the hideous front tires, and to get an oil change this week. Both rear tires look really good. I do wonder about my breaks ... Read More
Since "the oil hasn't been changed in a year", begin with getting that leaky tire repaired and the oil changed. I hope you at least checked the oil level during the past year, to be sure it didn't tun low. Next, have a reputable mechanic determine what's causing the squeak, and get a written estimate for repairing it. If the squeak is due to a safety related issue, you should get ... Read More
I tend to get "crazy" when something is wrong with my car being I am female and have experience with being "done in" by repair shops. Please help me to go to a shop with, at least, some idea of what a mechanic should be checking. The Stratus has 84,000 miles on it. About 18 months ago, it started to squeak. Terrible squeaking. I took it to a repair shop and ... Read More

I have a 2001 Stratus ES (2.7L) with 82,000 miles. I am religious about changing the oil every 3,000 miles. I have had the car for a year and a half with no problems at all. Just put new tires on the car this past Saturday. Sunday I put the tires to the test through a bunch of winding and hilly roads. Now when stopping, the oil pressure light comes on. ... Read More

I have a 2001 Dodge stratus se or es coupe, and recently had the head gasket and water pump changed due to overheating. When I turn the car off and put the key in the on position, (you know just to listen to the radio or put the windows up, the engine is not on) the thermostat gauge goes up past half way (about half an inch past half way), the ... My 2001 Dodge stratus SE with 2.7 V6, overheated on me yet again. This time it smoked, all my mechanic friends say its the thermostat. It has many other problems, an oil light flashing when I stop as well as a ticking sound when I stop. The RPM meter does not work. The Radio also doesn't work and the ac only works on high. I have taken it to many dealers ... Read More
The problem doesn't seem to be the remote starter since it is attempting to start the vehicle, but what you have to go through with the remote may be the same what you have to go through with trying to manually start the car, right? Your car is automatic transmission and you are trying to start the vehicle in PARK or NEUTRAL, right? Because if you're trying to start the car ... Read More

Had to drive once a rental in snowstorm in January 2001. Was scared. The ABS worked too often. It was not a Dodge Stratus, though, but a Plymouth twin. A neighbour get in couple of accidents on her Stratus. First time lost control on snow, spinned and hit a pole. The second time somebody cut her on highway, she stomped on brakes, lost control and totaled the car. On the other ... Read More
Hello, I'm a first timer here so bear with me. The summer of 2001 I bought a 1995 Dodge Stratus STD 2.4 off of a dealer. About three months afterwards it started to blow the ignition fuse repeatedly whenever I would attempt to start the car. I took it back to the dealer and they said that it was a bad fuel pump and that it was on the same fuse ... Read More

A few weeks ago, I bought a new 2001 Dodge Stratus ES. I really like the car except for one small annoyance that occurs after having the car sit in the hot sun (outside temperature above 80 or so) for several hours. For the first minute or two after I turn on the AC (when the car's interior is hot because of the sun beating down on it for hours), I ... Read More
