Might wanna make sure the auxiliary fan is working. I had this prob in my 99 Stratus. If the aux fan goes, BOTH fans have to be replaced on the 99.

when I'm drivng along after about 40 or 50 miles the engine cuts out for a couple of seconds and then keeps running doing this every so often. The check engine light comes on and sometimes the altenator light. But if I step down on the accelerater pretty good it then acts normal.I changed the ignition coil, plug wires, plugs, and the cam shaft position sensor. Does it sound like a ... Read More

my 98 does the exact same thing i bought it new, and can say this. i have, as you do, both low speed and high speed radiator fans.i have been able to determine that for some reason, when the high speed fan kicks on, something is shutting the low speed fan off. this reduces the flow of air to cool the radiator at idle. the car needs both fans at certain ... Dodge Stratus 2000

I took my car in for service 2 weeks ago for 50,000 mile check up. $700+. Today my engine light went on. I searched the internet and was told to turn key to on, off, on, off, on -- no diagnostic numbers appeared. Should I worry about this? Car is running fine.

Written by: khardy on May 25, 2006 6:32:07 AM
My car would turn over but would not start. We had the battery and alternator checked and they were fine. It sat for two days and then started up and drove fine. Then it would not start again. I was advised to change the fuel filter and did. It ran normally for five straight days. Then when driving, it died on me. It would not start and had to be towed. ... Read More

My 2004 Dodge Stratus does the EXACT SAME THING. But my engine light doesn't come on, and it goes away after driving for 10 minutes or so. When i first start it up, it will have RPMs in the 1500-2000 range (i think thats high) and when it goes into reverse it drops to about 800-900 and its rough. There is a lot of vibration in the steering wheel. If I ... Read More

Hello Natan6. I have a 2000 Dodge Stratus. I was able to take out the box and filter assembly on my 2.4. It was simple really. With that done, I went to O'Riely's and bought a chrome cone filter for $24.95. The connection on the cone is rubber about 3inches in diameter. The connection to the airflow system is a 4 inch oval. Well, when you squeeze on the sides of ... Read More

I have a 2000 Dodge Intrepid 2.7 with the very same problem. You are in the beginning stages of sludge build-up. This particular engine is one of the very worst engines by Chrysler. Looks at your tail pipe and see if there is a trace of light blue/gray smoke. If so you're in for trouble because your just about out of time. I SUGGEST YOU DO A GOOGLE SEARCH FOR "Dodge ... The battery was checked to be good. Also sometimes the car just turns off (stalls) either right after starting or sometimes well after running for 30 mins when I come to a stop light or in stop and go traffic. And ... Read More

I got my 2000 Stratus in December 2003 and was very happy with it; especially after my son exchanged the outdated cassette player for a new CD player as a Christmas present. Then in January a "film" developed on the windows that I couldn't get rid of. Then I began to smell antifreeze inside the car. A local car repair chain diagnosed the problem as a bad heater core.
