Excellent gas mileage and dependability. I think it has a nice sharp sedan look and it rides very well with great acceleration. I was impressed with its road handling for an inexpensive car.

My Stratus experience

I purchased this vehicle in 1999, it has been a very car. We have taken it on several long distance trips. It is very comfortable for long distances and we averaged 360 miles per tank on our trips. My only complaints are that 2 days after purchase, it had to be returned to the dealer for replacement of the computer control panel that controls all dashboard features, and they had it for 58 days. The other problem was that we had to replace the fuel pump last spring. When we removed the old one, we found that the wires going into it were scorched- I researched this and found that it is a fairly common problem although no recalls have been issued for it.

Favorite Features

I like the style of the body and the dashboard features. It drives very smoothly and quietly.

Suggested Improvements

Better placed cupholders and more of them. Improved seat fabric the standard cloth seats really attract and hold lint. They are almost impossible to completely clean of lint, especially if you choose a darker color like ours- slate grey.

Overall not a bad car. Let's face it, the car is not a Mercedes but nice nonetheless. Power is adequate, cabin noise is average creature comforts are a little sparse but one can get by. I have 96,000 miles on mine and plan to get something else only because I am ready for a change..can't kill this thing..( I have not tried, and I have maintained it very well) Besides routine maintenance I have had only 1 problem and that was my drivers side window motor needed to be replaced at about 60K. I replaced my timing belt by choice at 90K and the waterpump as well.. I saw the belt the mechanic pulled..did not look too bad..could have let that go but wanted to make it through the cold Chicago winter.

Favorite Features

Fun to drive, cab forward design, lots of room, inside, orange gauges at night, peppy but not fast with DOHC engine

Suggested Improvements

More cup holders, storage etc.. replaced driver door weatherstripping twice..door rubs on it and it falls off. Trunk lid is thin. Less cabin noise.

I have had this car since Apr. 2000 and have not had a single problem. I have 100,300 miles on it now, and my job requires me to travel extensively across the country and so do road trips with friends...with not a problem to speak of. I will be buying another Stratus after I have to give this one up.

Favorite Features

Huge trunk, because I move around a lot.

The seats are not great, but I'm fine going 12 hours non stop on them.

Ok car, not without it's faults

Front seats are not very comfortable. Not recommended for long trips. History of trouble with heads on motor. Common problem at around 60,000 miles to have heads warp. Can cause extensive motor damage if not checked regularly.

Is fun to drive. Handles well.

It has been a nightmare! We have replaced the head gasket, transmission, speed sensor twice, serpentine belt, alternater twice and the starter. This car has been in the shop more than out and Chrysler has been no help. We would never buy another Chrysler product

Very disappointed.Front end rattles and speed sensors have gone out twice in 50,000 miles.$400.00 Interior design needs improvement.

Tail lights, when I sold it.

Make one that I can leave town in and get home without calling AAA. Add a DVD player so I have something to do while waiting for the wrecker.

Terrible transmission

Tie rod failure at 51,000 miles. Almost got killed. Transmission failure at 56,000 miles. What is up with that?
